All communications should be addressed
to the Democrat.
The Daily and Weekly Democrat arc
entered at the postoffice at Texarkana as
second-class mail matter.
It is now stated that Mr. W. M.
Kavanaugh of the Arkansas Gazette
will enter the race for the Secretary
of State. He would make a good one.
That conspiracy f«>r the illegal ad-
mission of Chinese through Oregon
l»orts was far from being imaginary.
It was real enough to convince a jury.
One thing apitears to be certain;
the islands composing Hawaii do not
belong to the class of tern pro try is-
lands with which the Pacific nav ga
tors are familiar.
The news from Rrazil reads as
though some of the Republican tariff
liars prepared it. Still come to thin
none of the numerous fraternity ai<
missing from their usual haunts.
.The Bentonville Democrat tartly
says: Our governor is becoming re
Downed as a letter w iter. He ac
quired notoriety in this fine accom-
plishment away back in the sixties.
An income ta< of 2 per cent or
all incomes above $4000 is likely
to p iss Congress as the \\ ays and
Means committee has so recommend
ed N > Arkansas editor will be
reached by this law.
There is a slight discrepancy be
tweftn the republicans ami the W. (’
T U. The former say that the suf
feting and destitution through tin
country is entirely chargeable to the
Democratic party and the Itater say
that nine-tenths of it can be traced to
whiskey.
We can most heartily endorse the
following strong words of endorse
ment of one of Arkansas’ purest best
statesment. from the Bentonville Dem-
ocrat:
“After the adjournment of Con
gross for the holidays Senator Berry
delivered a speech in the Senate on
the repeal of the Federal election laws.
In the discussion of this subject our
Senator was peculiarly at home.
Among the many good and sound
speeches that ho has delivered in the
Senate this is one of his best. When
it comes to the defence of the South
or the state of Arkansas particularly
our Senator can always be relied up-
on. He comprehends the chivalry
and patriotism of our citizens and no
man has a higher estimate of the
virtue of our women. His tongue
never slanders or misrepresents. The
men trust him and the women love
him. lie cares for the interst of tie
one and is ever ready in the defense
of the innocence and virtue of theoth
er when assailed."
PROMPT ACTION NECESSARY.
The following comes so near our
own ideas of what is reqired to give
relief to the country that we take
pleasure in copying it from the Allan
ta Constitution.
There seems to be a vague idea
that Democratic Congressman have
no opinions of iheir ownand that it is
the duty of every selfish element and
interest to back them up in a corner
and proceed to “educate” them. And
this idea vague as it is seems to have
some basis. Men who al home were
for the free coinage of silver are for
the single gold standard in Washing-
ton and there have been changes on
the tariff question.
But what about the platform?
What about the simple solemn
pledges made to the people? These |
it seems to us should have prece-
dence over selfish interests that lilizz
around Congress and over the cro-
tchets of individuals.
The platform first and promptness
next! That is true Demo ratio poli-
cy ! Fling crotchets ami selfish inter-
eats to the winds and carry out the
Democratic programme without de-
lay.
Remove the doubt and uncertainty
that have taken possession of the vast
merchantilc and business interests of
the country.
Pass the Wilson bill! Push it
through promptly! Anything is better
than delay!
Repeal the tax on state banks!
Twlerate no bond issue!
Impose a tax on incomes large
enough to bear it.
Crown the Democratic party with
success by making both gold and sil-
ver the standard money of the coun-

Intense Itching
We cannot toll how that poor boy suffered in
all those years. Physicians did not effect a
cure. At last I decided to give him Hood’s
Sarsaparilla as my drngglst recommended
it. In about two weeks the Sarsaparilla began
to have effect.. The sores commenced to heal
up; the flesh began to look more natural and
healthy. Then the scales came off aad all over

When lie had taken two bottles h • was entirely
free from sores having only the scars to show
