James L. Culp of Godley, Tex. *
was injured fatally yesterday when *
he fell from a moving car 13 miles -

Provisions for special salaries
for the high school athletic staff
were voted by the board.
Pete Shotwell, head coach, will
receive $200, and assistants. $140,
for conducting a two weeks’ foot-
ball training session at the high
school in August.
Board members voted to pay
the coaches from the athletic fund.
Salary of the high school princi-
pal. Joe Humphrey, was set at
$5,500, the same amount set the
previous year.
It was reported by Supt. Nat
Williams that the City Commis-
sion has authoried purchases of
furniture in new school buildings
at a cost of $38,574. Williams added
that an additional $9,992.10 will be
needed
Members voted to have venetian
blinds put in the new buildings,
which will cost $103 more per
school than shades now in use at
other schools.

FORT FAIRFIELD, Me.. June
25 — William C. Brewster, 36,
and Roy Mangels, 31, who disap-
peared from here 10 days ago in
a light plane, emerged afoot from
a Canadian wilderness yesterday.
They were dog-tired, bedraggled,
but practically unharmed.
Brewster, a nephew of Maine’s
Sen Owen Brewster, told the As-
sociated Press the plane crashed
June 15 on a mountain top about
40 miles northeast of Plaster Rock,
N B. The men escaped with Cuts
and bruises.
For the first week, Brewster
said, they subsisted on "grain,
ferns and some frogs’ legs.
•"Three days ago," he continued,
“we ran onto a cache a trapper
had left and found some packages
of pancake flour and a couple of
cans of sardines. We’ve been go-
ing on those ever since."
They appeared at a woodsmen's
camp near Plaster Rock yester-

Negro Faces Charges
After Dual Shooting
HOUSTON, June 25 (UP)—Two
separate charges of assault to mur-
der faced a 49-year-old Houston
Negro Thursday in connection with
the shooting late Monday of two
Negro policemen.
.Melvin Davis was released on
$2,000 bond. The policemen. Lee
M Harrison and Obadiah Hearld,
arrested Davis several weeks ago
for using abusive language

Greeks Execute 26
For Treason, Murder
ATHENS, June 25 (—Twenty:
six persons were reported executed
here this morning They had been
convicted of treason, sabotage or
murder
Twenty of them were said
to have been among the 40 sentenc-
ed to death earlier in the week
after a naval trial on charges of
treason and sabotage.
The other six were believed to
have been -among the eight con-
vifed of assassinating Justice Min-
ister Christos Ladas last May Day.

worth has been in an American
hospital in Paris for the past week,
friends of the movie star said to-
day.

came to Paris three weeks ago.

Injures Man on Bus
FREEPORT, June 25. (UP)-
One man was hospitalized today
with serious injuries received
when a Missouri-Pacific bus skid-
ded on wet pavement and over-
turned on Highway 36 near here
yesterday.
A. C Littleton, 60, of Freeport,
suffered head injuries. several
fractured ribs and bruises. Ten
other passengers received minor
injuries, and five persons were
unhurt
H. L. Bowman of Galveston, the
bus driver, told officers he struck
wet pavement and the bus went
out of control. It halted upside
down in a ditch.
Japs Who Work
Hard Get Cigarets
TOKYO, June 25. (—Japanese
farmers, fishermen and others will
get American smokes if they work
hard.
Allied headquarters passed along
the good news today- 26 million
pacakages of American cigarettes
will be distributed as incentive
goods to those equalling or surpass- I
ing work quotas in the next year.
At least 11 million packages have
been handed out, mostly to coal
miners. Cigarettes cost up to $3 a
pack in the blackmarket.
Chinese Inflation
Soars Even Higher
SHANGHAI. June 25 (P)—One
American dollar brought 3,700,000
Chinese yuan in the black market
today. •
Value of Chinese currency drop-
ped nearly one million yuan in a
single day. The legal rate is 474,-
000 to 1.
Prices jumped accordingly. Rice
rose to 16% million from an aver-
age 13 million per 133-pound picul.
Flour and other cereals went up
25 percent

route to Big Spring to visit rela-

A co-operative institution operat-
ing under a state, charter, the hos-
pital will be a nonprofit institu-
tion with all profits reverting to
upkeep and improvement of the
plant. The cooperative has 500 1
members and the membership is
expected to increase

of the hospital. The project was
first proposed in 1945.
The hospital has 32 rooms, in-
cluding 19 bedrooms. It is of
brick construction.
Dr T_J. Barb, physician here
since 1923. and Dr Elmer J. Haw-
kins. physician and surgeon who
recently was associated with the
Lubbock Memorial Hospital, will
be on the medical staff Dr Barb
native of Arkansas, received his
medical training at the University
of Oklahoma Dr. Hawkins, who
was reared at Sylvester, was grad-
uated from McMurry College. Abi-
lene in 1942 and got his medical
training at the Baylor School of
Medicine He served his internship
in Madison, Wisc., and was in the
Army Medical Corps for two
years.
Nona Lois Hale. Fisher native
and graduate of Hendrick School
of Nursing, will be superintendent
of the hospital Miss Hale formerly
was with the Sweetwater Hospital
