(Shorty) Robinson, 32 - year • old
mechanic paid with his life in the
state's electric chair early today
for the sex strangulation of little
Joyce Joan Shouse 3, in Louis-
ville 11 months ago.
When Robinson walked from the
nearby "Death Row" he left Earl
Bircham, who gained a 10-day re-
prieve last night la his death sen-
tence Bircham was scheduled to
die at the same time for the mur-
der of a Louisville policeman The
Kentucky Court of Appeals granted
ths delay so attorneys could ask
the U. S. Supreme Court to review
the esse.
The appeals court acted after
refusing twice before to interfere
with the sentence

Abilene's newly-reorganized Re-
serve Officers' Association chapter
has named officer, and started
laying plans for a boys rifle club.
President Joe M. Jones said
Thursday.
Officers of the chapter are

Zerk Robertson, National Guard;
Lt. Commander James Con-
lan. Navy and Lt. Henry Doscher
(Navy), secretary - treasurer.
Jones said plane worn incom-

youths 12 to 16 are eligible, and
the ROA group to planning on
sponsoring matches and rifle train-
ing for the boys. ,
At a meeting Thursday night,
the group discussed plans for Na-
tional Defense Week in February.
The ROA group will soon have
monthly meetings with exset time
and place to be announced later.
All reserve officers from say of

Three more Abilenians have
been transferred from the 330th
Field Artillery Battalion, West
Texas reserve unit stationed at
Camp McCoy, Wis.
One of the men, Sgt. James L.
Rucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
Rucker, Route 2, has been ordered
to the Far East and la tow in
Washington Mate, awaiting ship-
ment. He recently completed •
25-day furlough home.

Class Don C. Holden, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. Cart Holden, 1302
Jeanette St. They have been trans-
ferred to Hdqs. and Hdgs. Battery
235 Field Artillery Observation
Battalion, and sent to Fort Sill,
Okla.
Marta wife resides at 1701 San-
defer St.
Service Battery of the 330th was
formerly located in Abilene. It was
called to active service Sept. 11,
INO, end sent to Camp McCoy.
Other unite of the 330th are from
Brownwood and ban Angelo.
Greyhound Starts
Work on Terminal

banquet in the Elementary School

Coker, a commercial salesman
for the Texas Electric Co., to mar-
ried, father of three children, and
a veteran of World War II.

Bobby D. Meade, seaman first
class, USN, is home on leave visit-
ing his wife, the former Bobble
Turner of Westminister, and his
parenta, Mr. and Mra. Charile

the aircraft carrier USS Pittsburg
in the Pacific.
He entered the Navy April 31,

Disabled Vets Name
Service Officer
J. c. Young has been appointed
service officer for Taylor County
Chapter No. 38, Disabled American
Veterans, Commander Bueford
Knight said Friday.
Young la also chaplain and past
senior vice commander of the Abi-
lene DAV chapter He is a grad-
uate of Hardin - Simmons Univer-
sity and la employed by Batjer and
St. John.
As chapter service officer he will
be the local disabled veterans' rep-
resentative and will work with the
national service officer, James W.
Rafferty, stationed at the Veterans
Administration regional office at
Lubbock.
Young will assist in filing
of claims and other papers for
veterans of World Wars I and II
and Korea vela. Young's home ad-

New license plates for Taylor
County’s vehicles will be Issued
beginning about Feb. 10. County
Tax Assessor-Collector Raymond
Petree reported Thursday.
Petree revealed that 30,800 of
the 1952 tags were stored in the
tax office Wednesday following
shipment from Austin.
Tags will be orange on black.

tal in Japan recovering from his
second combat wound.
He was wounded in Heartbreak
Ridge in Korea last Dec. U.
He received the Purple Heart
for wounds received in October.
Grand Jury to Probe
Kidnaping Complaint
A kidnaping complaint filed
against Abel Garcia, 42, of Abi-
lene, will be investigated by the
42d District Court grand jury
which reconvenes Feb. 5, District
Attorney Wiley Ceffey eaid Thurs
Felix Arispe, of 1686 Plum st.,
father of 12-year-old Beetrice Aris-
pe who disappeared for e week
earlier this month, signed the com-
plaint against Garels.
Garcia and the girl were return-
ed to Abilene Wednesday from
Midland, where Garcia waa arrest-
ed Monday night. ______
Buried at Cuthbert
SNYDER — Funeral for Mrs.
Pearlie Belle Crabtree, 73, Snyder,
who died Tuesday in Snyder Hos-
pital, was held at Cuthbert Meth-
odist Church with burial In the
Cuthbert Cemetery. She was the
mother-in-law at Scurry County
Commissioner Ted Haney.

CLYDE — Funeral service was
scheduled at 1 p.m. today for Don
R. Marshall, 60, Abliene postal em-
ploye, at the First Baptist Church
here.
The Rev. Willis P Gerhart, pas-
tor of Episcopal Church of Heaven-
ly Rest in Abilene, and the Rev.
E W. Marshall, retired Dallas
Baptist minister, were to officiate.
