DR. PRICE IN HOLY LAND
Jordan-Israeli
Contrast Great
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Thia sto-
ry by Dr. Sterling L. Price,
pastor of University Baptist
/ , Church, describes his visit to
the Holy Land He reached Ab-
ilene before his letter did, as
he cut short bis trip and flew
home to the bedside of his son,
Jimmy, who then was ill in
Hendrick Memorial Hospital.)
By DR. STERLING L. PRICE
Home in M days. Hallelujah! We
arrived in Israeli at 10:20 a.m. We
saw a revelation of progress. It
was unbelievable that one could
walk 100 yards from a primitive
way of life (Jordan) to an ultra-
modern way of life (Israeli). The
Jews are writing a saga of ad-
vancement never dreamed of in
the Middle East. More about that
later. .
The first part of our tour in New
Jerusalem was to walk the 135
steps up and down to King David's
tomb. Of course, it is only the
traditional tomb, but it is a Holy
site to the Jews and Moslems
Oddly enough, the hill where a
U. N. beadquarters is established,
is called "Hill of Evil Council."
This is the site of the High Priest
Caiaphas’ summer home and it
was here they “counceled how to
put Him (Christ) to death."
Walling Wall
Since the Wailing Wall to in Old
Jerusalem, and the Jews can not
go there, they now go to King Da-
vid's tomb and say their prayers.
At the Wailing Wall they pray for
two things: 1. For their dead. 2.
They lament the destruction of the
Temple. We then went to see the
traditional room of the “Last Sup-
per.” The building was built in the
15th century and there is a pillar
in the room dating back to the
days of Christ.
Next, we visited our Baptist
work in Jerusalem. There was a
lonely little church, seating about
100 persons. Rev. and Mrs. Bod
Lindsey are leading out in a fine
way. They have the complete con-
fidence of the leading Jews and re-
ceive every encouragement possi-
ble from them.
As the Jewish university is in
Old Jerusalem and inaccessible, a
new university is being built.
There are 3,000 students.
Leaving New Jerusalem, we vis-
ited Ein Korem, the birth place of
John the Baptist. It is a beautiful
little village, nestled in a valley
among cedar trees.
where Samson grew strong, and
the valley of Elah, where David
killed Goliath. The valley of Shar-
on was a beautiful vista as we left
th, Judean Hills Next came Cae-
sarea, which in the time of Herod,
was the greatest city of his em-
pire. Paul was in prison here two
years and talked with Felix, the
judge.
Suddenly there loomed before
us the great Mediterranean Sea.
Blue as the sky. In trying to get
my son some rocks, I almost took
an unscheduled dip! Fortunately,
I grabbed a rock and clung to it
until I could get a sure footing.
There were four American boys
here and one of them was the son
of the great and lamented Luther-
an preacher. Dr. Walter Mair
(spelling!) He plans to take a year
at the University of Heidelberg be-
fore returning to the Mates.
returned to Jerusalem for religious
reasons, you are mistaken and
they admit that their first and ma-
jor reason to a political one. The
Zionist movement is not a reli-
gious one, it to purely political
and national. Dr. Herze, organizer
and founder of the Zionist pro-
gram. dreamed of the day the
greatly abused rase of Jews could
once again be a natron and have
a home. There are 1,750,000 Jews in
Israel, 180,000 Arabs and 18,000
Druzes. It has 8,000 square miles
of territory and can support
3,000,000 people. I could write vol
umns here, but this is enough.

Site af Transfiguration
Leaving tha sea, we want to
Tabgka, where Christ fed the 5,000
with the lad’s five loaves and two
fishes. Looking up we saw Mt.
Hermon, rising 9,000 feet high.
While it to greatly controversial,
some think Mt. Hermon was the
site of the transfiguration. Caesa-
rea Phillipi came next. It was here
Christ told Peter, “I will build my
church, etc." Near here was Betb-
saida, where meat of the disciples
of Christ came from. Do you re-
member the Scripture, "Cast your
nets on the other side, etc.?” Well,
this is where it happened.
One could imagine he could still
hear Elijah tormenting the priests
of Baal as we came to Mt. Carmet
There in the distance was Lebanon
and the cities of Tyre and Sidon.
Driving on, we came to Salad,
which tradition says is the city el
which Christ said, "A city built on
a hill canoot be hid." Salad means
“the top” and it can be seen from
all sides for miles and miles. We
had lunch there.

Thriving Work
That afternoon, we drove to Naz-
areth. It has a population of 22,
000. We have a thriving Baptist
work there with over 350 enrolled
in Sunday school. We have a
splendid church building and a
beautiful school building and play
ground. A young man who gradu-
ated from the high school this year
will enroll in Hardin - Simmons
University this fall. I met him and
I can tell you he is a fine looking
Christian Arab.
Leaving Nazareth, we came to
the valley of Armageddon, where
aD the major battles of the Bible
were fought Gideon fought his
memorable battle here.
There is the Mt. of Beatitudes,
where tradition says the Sermon
on the Mount was preached.
Next came the city of Caper-
naum. where Christ healed the
sick man brought to him in Si-
mon’s home by the four men.
Corsa of Galilee was the site of
the first miracle of Christ and
the only one in the presence of
His mother — turning water into
wine. We then visited Magdalla,
the birthplace of Mary Magdalene,
and went swimming in the Sea of
Galilee.
From here we went to Tel Aviv
and spent the night. This is the
city of the future. Every new build-
ing is modern, contemporary archi-
tecture and the Jews are very
proud of it.
Now, a brief word about Israel.
The Jews have established their
homeland and are reclaiming the
soil for a great agriculture fu-
ture. If you think the Jew has

No Doubt In His Mind
This happy gentleman has just Taken title
to his seventh motor car.
And while he would probably have

there is one thing he knows with absolute

assemble in support of his sentiment!
First of all, there will be the eloquent
testimony of the car itself—its magnificent
performance ... its -marvelous comfort and
ride . . . and its incredible ease of steering
and handling.
And then, as he travels the boulevard,
there will be those quick glances of admira-
tion from his fellow motorists to tell him
that he is not alone in his judgment.
And, finally, there will- be that delighted
assembly of family and friends that awaits
him at journey’s end ... offering final con-
firmation of the wisdom of his choice.
