revenue bonds authorized in a 1954
election was ordered Thursday aft-
ernoon by the City Commission,
adoptine a recommendation' of
City Manager Austin P. Hancock.
Bid-opening date will be Dec. 13.
The commission also authorized
Hancock to have a brochure pub-
lished as a means of advertising
.. the bonds to prospective buyers.
The cost of this was estimated by
the city manager as $1,600 or $1,-
700
Mayor C. E Gatlin said he
doubted the advisability of spend-
ing the money for the brochure.
Commissioner Tom Webb count-
ered that the relative cost of the
brochure in proportion to the bond
proceeds was very small.
Action on the brochure was in
response to a question from Han-
cock as to whether the commis-
sion wished to publish such a book.
It was a question rather than a
recommendation for or against.
The $1,685,000 in water and sew-
er revenue bonds to be sold Dec.
13 are the only remaining bonds
unsold out of $6,650,000 worth of
various municipal bonds which
Abilenians authorized in a 1954
election.
Hancock said their sale is nec-
essary to complete the construc-
.hon program which the com-
mission promised the people be-
fore the 1954 election.
* He said that under terms of the
issue it is limited to 4 per cent
interest. By acting soon the city
apparently has a chance of get-
ting that low an interest rate. Han-
cock said , %
Proceeds will be used mostly to
complete the new sewage disposal
and treatment plant, build gates on
the Clear Fork detention darn and
-- finish the current expansion of
