Crime in Comparison
An extraordinary quality of logic
moves the Dallas News to remark
More Americans are killed in Tex-
as in a week than are killed in Mex-
ico in a month. There are more
thefts and robberies committed in
T. xas in a week than are commited
in Mexico against Americans in a
month. Texau is at peace; Fiexico is
at war. The population of Mexico
is many times that of Texas, The
criminal record of Texas moves the
governor of Texas to no greater ef-
fort than the perfunctory offering of
rewards for the apprehension of es-
caped criminals. The criminal rec- |
ord of Mexico moves him into in-
suiting the president because he will |
not urge war to redress fewer out- 1
rages than are committed by Texans
against Texans under the compla- 1
cent eyes of its zovernor.—S.A Light
Both the Dallas News and the San |
Antone Light are in a position to
know that these are facts and that 1
many things go to show that Mr.Col-
quitt is not seeking so much to safe
guard and protect humanity as he is
to promote the political interest of a
man who wishes to be the rext U.S
Senator from Texas. ‘ ,
No one would abridge the duties
and rights of the Governor to protect
us from out-laws, brigands and mur
derers along the border,or in the big
cities of the state where weekly kill
ings occur and human life is not safe.
An Editor’s Easy Life
It is easy to be an editor, the
Normal Bulletin says. To run a
newspaper successfully a man has
merely to be able to write poems,
discuss the tariff and money ques-
tions, umpire a base ball game, re-
port a wedding saw wood, describe
a fire so that the readers will shed
their wraps, make $1 do the work of
$10, shine at a dance, measure calico
abuse the lipuor habit, test whiskey
subscribe to charity, to, without
meals, attack free silver, wear dia-
monds, invent advertisements, sneer
at snobbery, overlook scandal, ap-
praise babies, delight pumpkin rais-
ers, minister to the afflicted, lead the
disgruntled, light to • finish, set
type, mould opinion, sweep out the
office, speak at the prayermeeting,
and stand in with everybody. And
in addition to the above essentials
the poor editor has to print a paper
once a week.

Opportunity for a Home
I will sell, in small tracts, or as
much as one wishes, of my farm sit-
uated in Atascosa Co. to the amount
of all I have. By paying one fifth
cash, the balance one-tenth annualy
till paid, at 8 per cent interest. At
these terms, there is no need of be-
ing unabl to own a home, as in this
way rent wil pay the land out in the
time. This land is almost all im-
proved and ready for a home and
I lies two miles south of Benton.
WARRANTED FOR ALL TIME.
If you purchase the New HOME you will
have a life asset at the price you pay, and will
not have an endleu chain of repairs.
