The Galveston News suggests that
the two last called sessions of the
Texas legislature will have cost
Texas $350,000. and that the
money bad better been spent in fix-
ing more room in the insane assylum
for poor unfortunates now crowd-
ed in the jails of the state. So far
as we see little has been accomplish-
ed towards helping our finances.
Speculation is largely the cause of
what we have to buy going up and
what we have to sell going down.
We are told that it is not much worse
in Europe where the war is actually
going on.

A Writer in one of our state

the world would have. He srys
that William II isthe greatest em-

the end of the German Empire—in a
great republic, we hope it may be.

The war is costing England at the
rate of $44.80 a second, which is
slightly in excess of the cost of run-

the next sixty days, just sit down
and try digging the truth out of this
blasted war._____________

NOTICE TO DELINQUENTS .
We have waited until October be-
fore trying to press collections from
our subscribers, because we did not
wish to push any one. Last year we
had a short cotton crop, money was
not plentiful, and many did not pay
in advance, and as the postal regula-
tions permit us to carry subscribers
for one year, we waited and hoped
that better times would come.
Up to this time, we have succeed-
ed in paying all our bills, as they
matured, but now there are some ob
ligations we cannot meet without
making some collections, and we feel
that our triends will want to help
us. If those who are behind with us
and those whose subscriptions are
about to expire, would pay us, it
would be but little sacrifice to each
of them and would mean several
hundred dollars to us.
We are mailing out statements to
those who are delinquent and we
beg those, if possible, to remit at
once and please do not compel us fo
drop your name and lose what you
owe us, or put it in the hands of a
collecting agency, which we never
