The Sehott-Bendele Wedding A Big
Allair
One of the mest important wed
dings of the year, was the mar-
riage on September 9th, 1919, of
Mr. Willie D. Schott, of Devine,
to Miss Sybille Bsndele, st St.
Louis Catholic Church, Castro-
ville, thus uniting two prominent
families of the county, Rev. F.
Heckmann, of Castroville officiate
ing. -----
The groom is a prominent young
farmerof this community, a sol
dier boy recently returned from
France, where he served a musi-
cian in the regimental band of
the 160 Infantry. The bride is
the only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Bendele of the Upper
Francisco neighborhood, a charm
ing young lady, who will make a
good commpanion to the young
man who made her his choice for
a life partner.
The attendants were Mr. Joe
Schott and Miss Lucille Tschir-
hart, Mr. Edward Bendele and
Miss Julia Poerner, Mr, August
Schott, Jr., and Miss Julia Droit
court,
" After the impressive ceremony
the happy party and many relati
ves and friends repaired to the
elegant ranch home of the bride's
parents where the celebrations
continued all day, with sumptuo-
us dinner and supper and a big
ball at night at the ball nearby.
Great crowds attended from both
Devine and Castroville, and re-
port a great time.
— The young couple took the train -
at Devine, later, for San Antonio
and points east, and will be at
home in a few days, in thier new
home on the Bendele farm.
The News joins in congratula-
tions.
25,000 Died Is Texas.
We are printing part of a letter
thia week from the State Health
officer, calling upon our people
to organise and clean up, and get
ready for a return of Influenza.
Twenty-five thousand died in
Texas last winter of this dread-
ful malady and we may expect
a return this fall, say all health
authorities. If weare wise, clean
up the town, clean up our bodies,
outside and in, we may get off
lightly. We know what it meant
last year, taking some of our
strongest and best. The News
serves notice (now, that by re-
quest of the State Health officer,
in a letter sent direct to this
office, that |ws are going after
our people without gloves if ne-
cessary. The honorable Mayor,
Board of Health, President
School Board, President Moth-
ers Club, Superintendent School
Ministers of the Gospel and oth-
ers should get ready for the
fight.
Destroy The Stalks
As fast as the cotton is picked
and labor can be had, the old
stalks should be cut and turned
under. Burning would be a’bet
tor way to, destroy the weevil,
but that tends te impoverish the
land, Cut and turned under green
tends to mulch and enrich the
lands. No use waiting and ex-
pecting any further crop, after
what is now on stalks is picked
Bids For • School Depositary

ochool funds of Devine Indepen

WITH BUSINESS SYSTEM THERE IS
NO LIMIT TO WHAT A MAN CAN DO”
The growth of large business concerns is largely the
result of good system
No business expansion grows without it. T , 1
As this bank has grown during the last fifteen years,
we have from time to time improved our system.
The last big improvement was to buy a Burroughs
Book-Keeping machine, which saves us time, gives us
a double proof of our work, and keeps statements al-
ways ready for our customers.
We have now ordered an electric motor which to run
this machine, which will speed up our work at least 33
1-3 per cent.-. 22
