Boerne sets 1,500-foot limit for sex offenders
By Dave Pasley
Staff Writer
Tuesday night the Boerne City
Council approved on second
and final reading an ordinance
prohibiting registered child sex
offenders from living within
1,500 feet of “child areas,” such
as schools, parks, day-cares and
similar facilities where children
are likely to congregate.
The restrictions apply only to
offenders convicted of a crime
involving a victim who was 17
years of age or younger at the time
of the offense.

Two charged
with cultivating
hydro-marijuana
Two men are facing felony
charges for cultivating marijuana
in a hydroponic garden.
During the course of a four-
month investigation, Kendall
County Sheriff’s investigators
developed crucial information
which led to the seizure of a
indoor marijuana growing opera-
tion at a residence in the Crossing
Subdivision on F.M. 3351, accord-
ing to Chief Deputy Matt King.
Arrested at the residence and
charged with possession of mari-
juana were Adalberto Chavez, 29,
and Sean Thompson, 29.
“A search warrant was obtained
for the residence in the 300 block
of River Forrest Drive last week
and inside the residence they dis-
covered a large number of live
‘hydro-marijuana’ plants, as well
as paraphernalia used to grow and
cultivate the plants,” King said.
Hydro-marijuana is the term for
plants grown hydroponically, in
sand, gravel or liquid but with-
out soil. Investigators are seeing
an increase in elaborate indoor
growing operations that produce
marijuana with a stronger THC
content and a street value up to 10
times greater than outdoor-grown
marijuana, according to the Texas
Department of Public Safety. A
large operation was found in Aus-
tin earlier this spring.
