OBITUARIES
William Gammon 'Sonny' Davis III
Oct. 3,1932 - May 18, 2010
William Gammon “Sonny” Davis III passed
away on May 18, 2010, in Boerne. He was
born on Oct. 3, 1932, in San Antonio to Gam-
mon and Billie Davis. He was preceded in
death by his parents and his wife of 56 years,
Bennie Carole.
He is survived by two daughters, Debbie
Davis of Rockledge, Fla., and DeDe Pome-
roy and husband Brad of Englewood, Colo.
He also is survived by two brother-in-laws,
Joe Gresham and wife Lois of Medford,
Ore., and Gary Gresham and wife Peggy of
Spring Branch. Sonny was blessed to have
four grandchildren, Kal and Kate Krueger of
San Antonio and Max and Molly Pomeroy
of Englewood, Colo., who will miss their
“Pop” greatly. He is also survived by numer-
ous nieces and nephews and many long time
friends.
Sonny joined the Army in 1952 and served
two years in the Korean War. After he was
discharged, he went to work at the San Anto-
nio Light and then Clark Printing Company.
In 1963, he purchased his uncle’s half of the
Boerne Star and joined his mother and father
as editor and publisher until it was sold in
Davis

1978. The family owned and operated The
Boerne Star for 78 years. He continued to
own and operate the Boerne Printing Company until 1986 and then he
retired to “Cederland” and became a rancher for the next 24 years.
A visitation is scheduled for Tues-
day, June 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at
Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home
in Boerne. A service is set for
Wednesday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at
First United Methodist Church in
Boerne. Graveside service will fol-
low at the Boerne Cemetery and
then a reception will follow at the
First United Methodist Church.

Syble Reed Massey
Sept. 25,1922 - May 23, 2010
Syble Reed Massey, age 87 of Boerne,
passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at her
residence. She was born Sept. 25, 1922, in
Kim, Colo., to Grace and Thomas Reed.
Syble attended Kilgore Junior College and
the University of Texas. She was a veteran of
World War II and served in the United States
Navy. She was a member of China Burma
India War Veterans, First United Method-
ist Church, The Highlander, and numerous
bridge groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband
of 48 years, Clem M. Massey. Survivors
Massey
include children, Linda Denson of Arlington,
Va., Laura Page of Boerne, and Bian Massey of Kerrville; six grand-
children; two great-grandchildren; brother, Charles E. Reed of Port
Arthur; sister, Betty Jo Dillard of Orange; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service was held Thursday, May 27, at The Menger
Springs Morningside Ministries in Boerne. Visitation of friends and
family will be Friday, May 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Highlander Club
House, 2000 Balmoral in Kerrville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kerrville. The family

Marjorie Lee Rossow Miller
Nov. 14,1925 - Monday, May 24, 2010
Marjorie Lee Rossow Miller of Fredericks-
burg passed away Monday, May 24,2010. She
was born Nov. 14,1925, in McAllen, to Lester
and Virginia Edwards Rossow. She married
Charles T. “Jack” Miller on Jan. 24, 1947, in
McAllen.
She graduated from Sharyland High School
and later worked for the telephone company
until she completed beauty school and began
a 25-year career as a beautician. She retired
in 1974.
She was a life long member of the Methodist
Church and in October 1951, helped charter
St. Mark United Methodist Church in McAl-

len. She taught Children’s Sunday School during the years her children
were growing up. Upon moving to Fredericksburg in 1985, she joined
the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. She loved her church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years and four months, Jack
Miller; two children: Pam Traver of Fredericksburg and Gary Miller
and wife Teresa of Boerne; four grandchildren: Christi Traver, Wesley
Traver and Chuck
Traver, all of Austin, and Chip Miller of Boerne; one sister, Bernell
Norton and husband Alan of Boerne.
She loved to bake and sew and was always making her family’s
favorite things. She loved sports and cherished her Texas Longhorns.
She will always be remembered for these things, but most of all for her
unconditional love, her generous spirit, and her forgiving heart. She
was the most wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandma babe, sister,
aunt, and friend.
Services were held Wednesday, May 26, in Fredericksburg United
Methodist
Church. Graveside services and interment followed in Greenwood
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hill Country
Memorial Hospice,
Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Foundation or the charity
of one’s choice.

Joseph F. Williams
May 4,1917 - May 25, 2010
Joseph F. Williams, age 93, a resident of Boerne since 1970, passed
away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Born in Seguin, on May 4, 1917, he
was the son of Joseph Emmett and Dixie Hale.
Joseph had worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years
retiring as a conductor.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucile; son Charles Clifton
Williams; brother, Bill Moore; and sister, Dixie Marty; Mr. Williams
is survived by his son, Robert Williams and wife, Linda; former
daughter-in-law, Deana; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, beginning at 10 a.m. The
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. at Vaughan’s Funeral Home with
Pastor Jonathan Park, officiating. Burial will follow in the Boerne Cem-

born to older parents. She graduated Magna
Cum Laude from Abilene Christian University
with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. She
taught elementary and junior high and also
presented numerous workshops and seminars for
teachers for 12 years before moving to Boerne.
After the first year of marriage to Dusty, they
moved to Corsicana for him to manage a large
ranch and to be near her parents. Jo Lynn lost
her dad, with whom she was extremely close, 3

stated that an offender living on
Lauren Lane has been convicted
of an offense involving a child and,
thus, will be subject to the new
ordinance.
That is not the case. The regis-
tered sex offender who lives on
Lauren Lane was convicted of a
crime against an adult and will not
be subject to the restrictions in the
new ordinance that was approved
on second reading by the Boerne
City Council on May 25. The Star
regrets the error.
