Council considers
suit against
electric firms
The City Council Tuesday night
conferred with Austin attorney Jim
Wilson on the possibility of Brady
joining seven other Texas towns in a
damage suit against a group of electri-
cal equipment manufacturers.
The suit, for alleged overcharges
on purchase of electrical equipment,
is an outgrowth of the federal
government’s recent anti-trust action
against the manufacturers.
Cities which can prove that they
were overcharged, through price-fix-
ing by the companies, can collect in
damages up to three times the amount
of overcharges.
Brady’s purchases involve those
made recently in connection with the
installation of two new engines at the
power plant.
Wilson said Brady’s claim would
be one of the smallest among those of
the Texas cities considering the suit.
The council took no action, pending a
decision on whether the possible re-
covery of damages would outweight
the expense of the suit.
