the afflicted will rejoice with D. E.
Carr of 1235 Harrison street Kan-
sas City. He is an old sufferer
from inflammatory rheumatism
but has not heretofore been
troubled in this climate. Last
winter he went up into Wisconsin
and in consequence has had an-
other attack. “It came upon me
again very acute and severe” he
said “my joints swelled and be-
came inflamed; sore to touch or

died yesterday at his home on Van
Ness street. The funeral under
the auspices of the Odd Fellows
took place this afternoon.
—A social will be given at Lake-
side hotel West End tomorrow
night.
—Chas. Beeler was given a sur-
prise party Saturday night in hon-
or of his birthday anniversary at
No. 501 St. Mary’s street.
—A number of the M. A. C. base-
ball team were out practicing at
the Jockey club grounds yester-
day. Work was begun today in
cleaning up the grounds.
—Trinity Sunday was celebrated
in the churches yesterday.
—The silver service used in com-
munion by the First Baptist
church has been stolen.
—Mr. Yale Hicks has gone to
Brownwood to address the com-
mencement class of the Daniel
Baker college.
—T. P. Coak general manager
of the Western Union Telegraph
company for Texas and western
Lousiana is in the city.
—Baptist young people enjoyed
Saturday at the Alamo Heights
where a picnic was given.
—Alamo wheelmen had a run
over the road race route yester-
day.
—The three-months-old child of
P. P. McManus corner Elmira
street and Baltimore ave. died
Saturday.

curred this afternoon at 4 o’clock.

family who have the sympathy of
a large circle of friends.
—A street car ran into a cart on
Avenue C Saturday afternoon and
dragged the cart and horse for
some distance.
—Col. Geo. Brackenridge has en-
dowed a scholarship in the Galves-
ton Sealey hospital and Training
school for nurses.
—Probate court met today.
—Seven women were baptized
at Mill bridge ford yesterday af-
ternoon by Parson Harrison of
the Third Missionary Baptist
(colored) church in the presence
of about 2000 spectators. One sis-
ter was so “happy” she began
shouting after her immersion.

IN BAILWAY CIRCLES.
Items Picked Up at the Depots. Of-
fices and Along the Lines.
Joe Sweeney and a large party of
friends picnicked on the Salado
yesterday.
The employes of the Internation-
al and Great Northern will give a
picnic some time next month.
A special meeting of the South-
western Traffic association will
take place at St. Louis on May 31
to discuss freight rates.
A switchman on the Southern
Pacific known as “Bad” Fagan
had the middle finger of his left
hand mashed off last Saturday
while making a coupling.
It is estimated that the San An-
tonio and Aransas Pass handled
about 1300 people last Saturday
for the picnics that took place at
Leon Springs and Berg’s Mill.
The funeral of the late Jerry Mc-
Cray the brakeman on the South-
ern Pacific who was killed last
Friday took place Saturday morn-
ing and was largely attended by
Southern Pacific boys.
The Eagle Lake fishing and hunt-
ing grounds will be opened next
Sunday. The Southern Pacific will
run excursions from all neighbor-
ingtowns. San Antonio is too far
and none will be run from here.

a party that visited the hot Sul-
pher Wells last week and took in
the dance at the Asylum.
James M. Ashley formerly pres-
ident of the Toledo Ann Arbor
and North Michigan road with
headquarters at Toledo Ohio is
suing that corporation for $332000
with interest on account of unpaid
salary and loans. The latter ap-
proximates nearly one million dol-
lars. It is claimed Ashley has
never received a dollar of salary
and has drawn upon his private
funds to pay for equipments for
the road. Ashley was the founder
of the road and was formerly gov-
ernor of Ohio.
