New Post office
continued from page a
gressman Jim Turner's - office;
'Larry D. Brooks, contracting of-
ficer with the post office depart-
ment and Ron Williams, Rusk post
master.
The post office forms a vital part
of the nation's heritage with 40,000
offices across the country in every
community. "Sometimes an office
has to be expanded and updated
and we want to hear from the com-
munity as a project proceeds
through the various stages," he
noted.
Step One is working with local
leaders in finding another build-
ing that meets requirements in
the same general area as the exist-
ing office or find another site and
build a new post office.
The meeting Monday night was
Step Two, a new site, and a follow-
up to the one held earlier with
Mayor Emmett Whitehead and
representatives of the community.
"We are want the full community
involved in the project," Mr. Har-
ris said.
"After this meeting, we will start
a 15 day comment period. We will
advertise for Bites. The guidelines
call for 5,180 square feet. We want
to assure that we have plenty of
room for growth. We want to in-
clude this in the plans for the site,
^e will evaluate the sites and will
look for everything. We want to be
assured that we are getting the
best," Mr. Harris said.
"The safety issues and elderly
accessibility will be considered. Af-
ter that is done, we will do our
review and evaluation and will
turn our recommendation in to the
postal department. There will be
no ranking," he said.
The postal service review group
will come to Rusk and narrow the
sites down to two locations. They
will recommend a proposed site.
The two sites will be posted for
everyone to review and there will
be a feed back period. If there is no
congressional issue the project will
continue as planned.
The architectural prototype de-
sign will be analyzed to see how it
will fit on that particular site.
The new post office will have
three exits and three entrances.
"We have a lot of homework to do,"
Mr. Harris said.
A grand opening will be held
after the post office construction is
finished.
"I will always be available for
questions," Mr. Harris said. He
can be reached at Virtual Real
Estate and Services, 972/724-1563,
or 214/507-1522. His fax number
is 972/874-9060 and his address is
2000 Widgeon Way, Flower
Mound, Tex. 75028.
Following his presentation, Mr.
Harris opened the meeting for
public comments stating that this

But I Could Never Do That!
rhati)
How many times have you heard someone say,
"I wish I could play the piano", usually followed by
something like "But I could never do that"? That's
simply not true. Positively wrong.
You, YES YOU, absolutely can
easily learn to play by heart (by ear).
No struggling with notes. No boring poring over
printed pages of music.
For many years, Glenn Cummings played the
entertainment circuit appearing at Sheraton and
Hilton hotels, upscale resorts, on the radio and in
dozens of churches. While he can't read a note,
he can show you how to play, help you discover the
personal satisfaction and feeling of achievement
that flows from making beautiful music to entertain
yourself and others.

John Daly praised Rusk Post-
master Williams and his staff for a
job well done. "We recently re-
ceived a letter addressed to
Granddaddy and Grandmama,
P.O. Box, Rusk, Texas and we got
it. Your people looked at the re-
turn address and noted that it
came from a Daly so the letter
must have been ours."
Charles Hassell representing the
Rusk Industrial Foundation
thanked Ms. Aldred and Congress-
man Turner's staff for their coop-
eration in this project. He sug-
gested that the post office be con-
structed no more than one city
block from the courthouse square.
Martha Neely, Main Street Man-
ager, spoke on behalf of the Indus-
trial Foundation's recommenda-
tions.
"We don't have that much avail-
able downtown and may be at a
loss unless we go outside the
square. I think the safety of the
entrance and getting in and out
are why we want to move the post
office," Ike Daniel, Rusk citizen
and property owner said. "I repre-
sent the old folks."
"Parking is critical for a facility
this size, which will entail 49
spaces. Proper entrances are es-
sential. In no instance will the
structure be built off a major thor-
oughfare. The ideal location would
be a four cornered site with stop
signs and stop lights. We have lots
of homework to do," Mr. Harris
said.
