News Briefs Tanners honored at bridal shower
Vernell McCann
Funeral for Vernell McCann of
Jacksonville was at 11 a.m. Thurs-
day, Aug. 2, at the Sweet Union
Baptist Church with the Rev. Karl
Hockenhull officiating. Burial was
in Jacksonville City Cemetery
under the direction of Mercy Fu-
neral Home.
Mr. McCann died July 30 in East
Texas Medical Center Specialty
Hospital at Tyler. He was born in
Marlin Falls County, Texas. He
attended school in Marlin and
graduated from Booker T. Wash-
ington High School. Following
graduation he moved to Dallas and
graduated from Mortuary Science
School. He was a member of the
Sweet Union Baptist Church at
Jacksonville and was a retired
mortician and funeral director.
He pursued his profession as a
mortician and funeral director at
Lotts Mortuary and Crawford Fu-
neral Home in Dallas. From Janu-
ary 1959 to August 1986, he was
mortician and funeral director in
charge at Mercy Funeral Home in
Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his
mother, father, three brothers and
two sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Carolyn
Jean McCann of Jacksonville; a
son, James Henry McCann of Dal-
las; a godson, Christopher (Chris)
Ellis of Jacksonville; a brother,
Joseph McCann of Lawrenceville,
Ga.; two sisters, Ernestine Hayes
and Verlene Garrett, both of Dal-
las; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bradford
Armstead, Ivory Armstead,
Preston Armstead, Gerald Hayes,
Stanley Hayes, Elvin Hayes, Revis
Ray Loftin, Ricky Loftin, Dennis
Williams, David McCann and Jo-
seph McCann Jr.

cons from Sweet Union Baptist
Church and the Progressive Lodge
No. 357.
Geneva Rae Larson
Funeral for Geneva Rae Larson,
68, of Austin, formerly of Rusk,
was at 2 p.m. Friday in the Colo-
nial Chapel of Cook-Walden Fu-
neral Home, 6100 North Lamar in
Austin. Burial followed at Cook-
Walden/Capital parks.
Mrs. Larson died Tuesday, Aug.
1. She was a member of Oak Hill
Baptist Church. She was presi-
dent of the PTA, as well as a mem-
ber of South Austin Optimist Club
and Oak Hill Business and Profes-
sional Association.
Mrs. Larson is survived by her
husband, Rodney Larson of Aus-
tin; a son, Mike Larson of
Chestertown, N.Y.; a daughter,
Vikki Keller of Austin; a grand-
son, Chris Keller of Austin; a
brother, Joe Mack Lanier of Rusk;
and two sisters. Hazel Martin of
Garland and Dorothy Engledow of
Gun Barrel City.
In lieu of flowers, the family re-
quests memorials be made to
Children's Hospital of Austin, 601
E. 15th St., Austin, Tx. 78701.

Rusk Quarterback Club meets Aug. 13
The Rusk Quarterback Club will
meet again at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug.
13, at Rusk High School Cafeteria
to finish up with ads for the Rusk
Eagle football program. The pro-
grams are distributed free at all
home football games.
After a brief meeting members
will prepare the concession stand
for Meet the Eagles which will be
Thursday, Aug. 17, at Eagle Sta-
dium.

63, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m.
Friday in the Thompson Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry
Carroll and the Rev. Philip War-
ren officiating. Burial was in Union
Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Reynolds died Tuesday, Aug.
I, at his home. He was born March
II, 1937, in Rusk. He was a mem-
ber of the Sunset Baptist Church
in Jacksonville and served in the
U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime mem-
ber of the VFW Post #3894 and the
lOOF.
Survivors are his wife, Mary J.
Reynolds of Jacksonville; two
daughters, Anita Michel Malone

Funeral for Billie Rube Ses-
sions, 76, of Marshall was at 2
p.m. in the O.T. Allen & Son Fu-
neral Home Chapel with the Rev.

Mr. Sessions died Aug. 4 in Van.

Wells to Homer & S E. Black Ses-
sions.
Mr. Sessions was a member of
the Wells Masonic Lodge and also
a Shriner. He was a general con-

Funeral for James B. Neely, 89,
of Nashville, Tenn. was at 2 p.m.
Saturday in Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Margaret, and daughter,
Beverly.
Survivors are two sons and
daughters-in-law Greg and Mar-
tha Neely of Rusk and Boh and
Nancy Neely of Nashville; five
grandsons and one great-grand-
child.
Lacy Lovell
Funeral for Lacy Lovell, 67, of
Weches was at 5 p.m. Monday at
the Weches Baptist Church with
the Rev. Ken Mobley and the Rev.
Ottis Byers officiating.
Burial was in Weches Cemetery
under the direction of Callaway-
Allee Funeral Home.
Mr. Lovell died Saturday, Aug. 5
in East Texas Medical Center
Crockett. He was born Sept. 10,
1932, in Weches and had been a
Houston County resident most of
his life.
He served in the Texas State
Legislature from 1966-72 and was
employed by the Texas Alcoholic
Beverage Commission for 26 years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force
and was a 32nd degree Mason be-
longing to the Augusta Masonic
Lodge. He was a member of the
Weches Baptist Church and was
an avid rancher.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Loyd and Gertie Lovell
and two uncles, Sherman Lovell
and Elwin Lovell.
Survivors are his wife, Ginger
Lovell of Weches; a son, Jim Lovell
of Weches; a daughter and son-in-
law, Tracy and Jody Glazner of
Weches; three grandchildren, Jus-
tin Lovell, Brittany Glazner and
Amanda Glazner; three aunts,
Myrtle Lovell of Weches, Nannie
Lovell of Weches and Fannie Pyle
of Weches; an uncle, Bill Cox of
Fresno; a sister-in-law, Jean
Sepmoree of Crockett; two broth-
ers-in-law, Lee Hollingsworth of

Also, Father Chinnappa was in-
volved in missions at Gwalior and
ministered to 35 Catholic families
from the air force station.
He says he has been studying
English since he was in the third
