Maydelle was at 10 a.m. Friday at
the First Baptist Church in
Maydelle with the Rev. C.I).
Walker and the Rev. Floyd
Simpson officiating. Burial was in
Mount Comfort Cemetery under
the direction of Wallace-Thomp-
son Funeral Home.
Mr. Roach died Oct. 18 in East
Texas Medical Center Jackson-
ville. He was born May 10,1915, in
Maydelle and was a lifelong
Maydelle resident. He was a re-
tired timber businessman and a
member and deacon for 50 years of
the Maydelle First Baptist Church.
He was a director for Eastex Tele-
phone Cooperative in Henderson.
Mr. Roach was preceded in death
by bis wife, Mildred Roach, in 1997;
a son, Tommy Roach, in 1959; and
sisters, Kathleen Durrett and
Gwendolyn Taylor.
Survivors are two sons, David
Roach of Maydelle and Jason
Roach of Lindale; a daughter,
Margaret (Cookie) Crawford of
Maydelle; a sister, Maude Beam of
Houston; six grandchildren, Nancy
Smith, Trey Arnold, Trent Arnold,
Brad Crawford, Jeana Gonzalez
and Cody Roach; three great grand-
children, Spencer Smith, Preston
Smith and Jordan Roach; nieces
and nephews.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy
Sherman, Allen Dormán and di-
rectors of Eastex Telephone
Cooeprative.

Hazelle Idell Mettauer Wolford,
90, sister of Sarah Summers of
Rusk and Jacksonville, died
Oct. 11, in Houston, where she
had been living for the past 10
years.
She was borti in Rockland, on
Feb. 2, 1910. She grew up in
Lufkin and graduated from Lufkin
High School in 1928. She married
Shelby Wolford in 1932.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Ada and Charles
Mettauer; her husband, Shelby A.
Wolford; brother Charles Y.
Mettauer; sister Vida Ruth Moore;
son in-law Robert E. Hawkins Jr.;
and an aunt, Esther Hearne of
Palestine.
Mrs. Wolford is survived by her
daughter Marsha Wolford
Hawkins of Houston; grandson,
Robert E. Hawkins III of Austin; a
sister, Sarah Ann Summers of
Rusk and Jacksonville; a brother,
John Dave Mettauer of Mead,
Okla.; a brother-in-law, Ray
Wolford and his wife, Leah, of
Lufkin; two sisters-in-law, Mary
Agnes Wolford Gilliland and her
husband Jim of Longview and
Dora Wolford, widow of Hugh
Wolford of Lufkin and many nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was
held at the Warren Chapel at St.
Dominic Village where she was
living at the time of her death. She
was buried in the Garden of
Gethsemani at Forest Park
Lawndale Cemetery in Houston
on Oct. 14.

Funeral for Barbara Ruth
Robertson, 81, of Montgomery, was
at 1 p.m. Oct, 14 at the First Bap-
tist Church of Montgomery with
the Rev. Ken !layman and Barry
Taylor officiating. Burial was in
Garden Park Cemetery at Conroe.
Mrs. Robertson died Oct. 10 in
Conroe. She was born May 29,
1969, in Irving. She graduated
from Van High School, Tyler Jun-
ior College and the University of
Texas at Tyler, receiving both hei
Bachelor of Arts and Master of
Arts degrees.
She was preceded in death by
her grandfather, lies Taylor.
Survivors are her husband,
Clifford (Cliff) Robertson of'Mont-

The child died Oct. 14 in Hous-
ton. She was born Oct. 20, 1992, in
Tyler. She attended Montgomery
Elementary School.

Mr. Thompson died Oct. 22 in a
Tyler hospital. He was born Jan.
14,1920, in White City. He gradu-
ated from Rusk High School and
returned to Rusk 20 years ago af-
ter living in Baytown for 39 years.
He was a member of the Rusk
First United Methodist Church.
He retired from Exxon Oil com-
pany after 39 years of service as a
senior research technician. He was
a member of the Euclid Musonic
Lodge No. 45, where he was a 32nd
degree Mason and also received
his 50 year pin. For 17 years, he
managed Little League baseball
and was involved with Boy and
Girl Scouts associations. He was a
lifetime member of the Houston
Livestock show and rodeo, was a
baseball player for a semi-pro
team, the Diboll Millers.
He was preceded in death by a
son, Ira George Thompson Jr. on
June 28.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years,
Rosemary Holcomb Thompson of
Rusk; three daughters and two
sons-in-law, Georganne Gray and
George Pekema of Houston, Mary
Beth Thompson of Magnolia and
Sarah and Bryan Selden of Rusk;
a daughter-in-law, BrendaThomp-
son of Baytown; six grandchildren,
Brian Gray and his wife,
Stephanie, of College Station, Erin
Gray of Houston, Elizabeth, Mat-
thew and Mary Caroline Selden,
ull of Rusk and Brett Thompson of
Baytown; two great-grandchil-
dren, Jacy and Jenna Gray of Col-
lege Station; and numerous nieces
and nephews. Pallbearers were
Neill Holcomb, Ricky Richards,
Jimmy Richards, Jim Thompson,
Nat Conder and Ray Penn.

bers of Rusk Euclid Lodge No. 45,

Selden, Brett Thompson, Matthew
Selden and Mary Caroline Selden.
Funeral for Ruby E. Bowman,
74, of Tyler was at 1:30 p.m. Fri-.
day at the New Life Baptist Church
with the Rev. Walter Jones offici-
ating. Burial was in the Cathedral
in the Pines under the direction of
Lloyd James Funeral Home. Mrs.
Bowman died Oct. 17 at her home.
She was born June 3, 1926, in
Rusk. She had lived in Tyler since
1962, was a Baptist and a health
care provider. She was preceded
in death by Ann Bowman Mitchell.
Survivors are three sons, Ed-
ward Bowman of Tyler, Kenneth
Bowman of Houston and Gary
Bowman of Denton; a daughter,
Debbie Bowman ofTyler, a brother,
William Jackson of Rusk; a sister,
Nora Hanvy of Rusk; 10 grand-
children and 10 great-grandchil-
dren.

Beaumont died Sept. 21 at
Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
The funeral was Sept. 24 at North
End Baptist Church. Burial fol-
lowed at Magnolia Cemetery,
A native of Barsola, he lived in
Beaumont and was a Mack Truck
service engineer.
Survivors include his wife,
Frances Johnigan Smith of Beau-
mont; a son, David Smith of Beau-
mont; a daughter, Dawn Coates of
Dallas and four grandchildren.

Talley Welch
of Anson,
moved to Rusk
Tuesday and
were sched-
uled to be at
the Wednes-
day night ser-
vice at the
church. The Rev. Welch was called
as pastor of the Rusk First Baptist
Church Sept. 17.
The new pastor comes from a
line of Southern Baptist preach-
ers. Both of his grandfathers and
his father were Southern Baptist
pastors. He surrendered to the
ministry at the age of 16.
He graduated from the Univer-
sity of Texas at Tyler and attended
Jacksonville BMA Theological
Seminary and Southwestern Semi-
nary. He has 28 years experience
in the ministry.
The couple married on Aug. 19,
1972. They have a married daugh-
ter, Corrie, who lives in Lewisville
and a son, Mark, who lives in Tyler.
The couple has served at Anson
First Baptist Church for 10 years.
Anson is 22 miles north of Abilene.
Prior to that, they were at First
Baptist Church in Murchison for
nine years. Other pastorates in-
clude Martins Mill Baptist Church;
Alamance Baptist Church at At-
lanta; and Crossroads Baptist
Church in New Mexico. They have
been active in associations, camps,
retreats, ABSU Board and com-
munity involvements.
Mrs. Welch's father was a dea-
con. She is a Sunday school teacher,
choir member, prayer warrior,
writer and teacher. She was an
English teacher at Anson High
School.
