Letters to the Editor Policy
The Boerne Star welcomes letters on any public issue.
Letters may be mailed, faxed, e-mailed or hand-delivered but must
contain the writer’s name, address and phone number. Addresses and
telephone numbers are for verification purposes only and will not be
published. Names and city of residence will be published. Letters
should be short and concise, long enough only to make your point.
We reserve the right to edit all letters for style and content and refuse
letters that would be objectionable to readers. We also will not publish
anonymous letters. Priority will be given to letters 300 words or less
that concern local topics and written by people who’ve not published
a letter in the last 30 days.
The Boerne Star does not accept letters to the editor urging vot-
ers to vote for or against candidates in local elections. Endorsements
should be displayed in political advertising. In light of this policy,
we reserve the right to reject or edit letters for references to can-
didates and whether or not they should be elected.
Call 830-249-2441 with questions regarding the submission of let-
ters to the editor for publication.

Letters to the Editor
Imagine what we could be
It amazes me how almost every week there is a letter to the editor about
how the Republicans are wrong or how the Democrats are wrong. If you
meatheads could ever open your minds, you might realize that both par-
ties are wrong. Both parties are responsible for the situation we are in
as a country right now. Neither party will work together for the good of
the country, both parties are bought and sold by lobbyists, and all the
members of both parties really care about is getting re-elected, keeping
their cushy job, and getting that lifetime pension with benefits.
I know this is going to be hard for most of you, but just imagine what
our country would be like if we had a government that really worked
for the good of the American people? What if lobbyists were outlawed?
There would be no influence for a politician to succumb to. What if
there were term limits? Then we wouldn’t have these old farts who were
originally elected in the 60s and 70s still in office. Times have changed,
but not for these old-timers.
What if the tax codes were changed so there were no loop holes that
enable certain people and businesses to get benefits at the expense of
others. What if all corporations paid taxes? Think of the money that
could be generated off that. No more General Electric not paying any

taxes. What if politicians didn’t get the lifetime pensions and the ben- 1
efits? Think of the bankroll that goes towards that. 1
It all comes down to the fact that our political system and govern- |
ment does not work anymore. Things need to change. The way people j
think has to change. The politicians of this country have been bought I
and sold so many times, they don’t make decisions and laws for the
American people. They make decisions and laws for themselves and
for their buddies, a
Study the reasons why Rome fell and you will see a lot of similari- ’
ties between that and our current situation. Some theories of the fall of
Rome include; decline in morals and values, public health and envi-
ronmental problems, political corruption, huge unemployment, out of .
control inflation, urban decay, out of control military spending and |
political incompetence. Does this sound familiar? It should because it 1
is happening right now. Unfortunately, the general public is so brain- i
washed to believe their particular party is 100 percent right and the
other party is 100 percent wrong that they don’t have enough brain
power to understand any of this. The mind is like a parachute, it works
only when open.

Plane falls
Monday about 7 o’clock a plane from San
Antonio fell in the Morrow pasture, pain-
fully injuring one of the two occupants. A
few Boerne citizens headed by Mayor Max
H. Theis visited the scene shortly after the
fall and assisted in getting the flyers to the
road and hospital. One of the flyers was hurt
severely. The plane caught fire and was a
complete loss.

Hospital two years old
The Boerne Hospital observed the second
anniversary of its founding here by Dr. Jack
Diamond by admitting its 526th patient. It
also was noted that 121 obstetrical cases had
been cared for during that period, and that
there had been 25,000 treatments tendered to
both in and out patients.
Approximately 11,000 patients have been
treated in the first seven months of this year.
Dr. Diamond is also the county-city health
officer.
Grass fires do damage
A large number of grass fires broke out in
different sections of the county last week-
end. Several ranches on the Sisterdale and
Comfort roads were on fire. The Daley ranch
burned for two days and the Fair Oaks ranch
was ablaze for two days. The Alf. McD. Gil-
liat ranch on the Upper Cibolo was also afire
for a short time.
The livestock loss was small, but the dam-
age to the range was very great.
The fires started on ranches adjoining the
highways. Everybody should take extra pre-
cautions to be very careful now as the country
is so dry it will burn very easily. Don’t throw
lighted cigarettes, cigars or matches out of
