Drops Dead While Talking.
Houston. Tex. Aug. 3. —While talk-
ing with his brother George B. Cul-
pepper. aged 30 years fell dead in a
business house. His home was in Ke-
bron. Arkansas.
One Dying: Another Dead.
Fort Worth. Tex Aug 3—Andrew
S. Holmes fell from a telephone pole
yesterday sustaining injuries which
resulted in instant death. One hour
later A. W. Goddard" a house mover
while arranging some wires at the
ton of a pole struck a live wire and
fell thiitv feet to the ground sus-
taining injuries from which he is not
expected to live.
Drowned at Port Arthur.
Port Arthur. Tex. Aug. 3 —J. Wiele
! one of the pontoon men working on
| the dredge Sealy was drowned in nine
' feet of water near the dredge. His
j body was recovered in about an hour.
Brakeman Found Dead.
Dallas. Tex.. Aug. 3.—W. S. Martin
of Cleburne was instantly killed
Thursday night near the Sante Fe
bridge which crosses the Trinity river.
His body was found by the engineer
of passenger train No. 65 from Cie-
bttrne and brought to the Sante Fe
depot Martin was head brakeman on
local Sante Fe freight No. 44 which
runs between Cleburne and Dallas.

Fireman Breaks Collar Bone
Houston. Tex. Aug. W?—Walter
Thrash member of the Houston fire
department sustained a broken collar
bone and other injuries as a result of
beine thrown from a truck while re-
sponding to an alarm of fire. As the
truck was turning a corner it came
in contact with a curved track and
Thrash was thrown to the ground.
Killed by Lightning.
Crockett. Tex.. Aug. 3—Jim Ware
a prominent farmer was struck and
killed bv lightning about five miles
west of this place while riding in his
wacon.
R. M. Clark Succeeds.
Dallas. Tex.. Aug. 3.—R. M. Clark
has been named to fill the vacancy
caused bv the resignation of Assist-
ant Countv Attorney Horace Williams.
Mr Clark will assume his duties about
August 19.
Drove Golden Spike.
Denton. Tex. Aug. 3. —Mayor Sim-
mons inaugurated the work of laying
the rails for the street railway sys-
tem here bv driving in a golden spike
in the presence of several hundred
people. Although this is the formal

I brakeman was run over by a train
yesterday half of his body was left
lying in the state of Zacatecas and

I state of San Luis Potosi. Officials of
1 each state took charge of half of the
| body and will hold separate inquests.

' relatives of the dead man are unable
to get the two parts of the body for

The Light Battery Company F.
Third Artillery under Captain Lan-
caster part of the Eighth Cavalry
and the heavy Baggage of the San An-
tonio and Belknap Rifles left last
night on a special train for Galveston.
At. the meeting of the city counc’l
last evening bids were received for
the purchase of the $50000 bonds for
citv improvements. The bids were re-
ferred to the finance committee.
Paul Levy celebrated his twentieth
birthdav anniversary yesterday with
quite a number of his friends.
Frank J. Caldwell left this morning
for Galveston and will keep The Light
readers posted in regard to the move-
njent of the soldiers in that city.
The warm weather is cutting down
the clerk's marriage fees.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed.
Dreiss iast night.
H. J. Haste a brakeman on the Sun-
set was brought in from the Colum-
bus hospital yesterday suffering with
three broken ribs. He fell from :♦
