his mother, Alearía Lopez.
Tom Walsh, a private of M,
Troop, 8th Cavalry, got full of
mescal last night, broke down a
door, beat a policeman and other
wise made things lively.
Roaaljo Garcia and Srta. Ignacia
Ramirez of Matamoros, will be
married by Judge Ilune this even-

Sr. Moisés Garza has been made

Gen. Ignacio Martinez arrived
hpme on Saturday's train and was
welcomed at the depot by a host of
friend*. He at once proceeded to
the commodious quarters in the
Tturria building, where he was
treated in the evening to a serenade
by Acuna's orehesta, many of his
friends were also assembled to pay
their respects to him. A grand
ball in his honer will bo given, on
Tuesday night, by the Casino
Union.

At the bull fight yesterday after-
noon four bulls were brought on,
lots of fun and no one hurt.
The flags were flying on all tho
public buildings today as a mark
of friendly respect to the republic
of Colombia, this being their in-
dependence day.
Yesterday Sra Seferina Garza,
aged 85, died of hemorrhage of the
brain, and Francisca, infant daugh-
ter of Dionisio Torres, of inanition.
Saturday Sr. Albino Hernandez
was married to Srta. Solidad Ar-
relleno. '
Yestorday María Guadalupe Ra-
moz, a camp follower, wa3 arrested
on order of Capt. Escamilla, for
being dfimk and creating a row in
the barracks, and Felipe Velasquez
and Eligió Garcia were arrested on
complaint of Patricio Cera, for be-
ing drunk and creating a row at
his place, one being armed with a
pistol and the other with a knife.
Last night a girl, named Nican-
ora Robles, was run over by a horse-
car, neaT the half way house, and
had her. left arm and leg badly
crushed. It appeared that two cars
were passing and the girl
backing to get out of the way of
one was run over by the other. As
is the custom the car drivers,
though in this instance not to
blame, were both arrested.

At Tacubaya Jose Parjon, in a
row over a small sum he owed a
billiartl marker, shot and killed the
latter.
At Teuango del Valle a black-
smith, named Guadalupe Estebez,
was murdered iii f|ie street*; at night
by his apprentice, Tomas Gallegos.
Gen. Miguel de la Pcfia has been
made a major general.
Strange stories are lifloat of wo-
men being killed or drugged in the
hospital at Veracruz.
Three hundred children have
died at \ illa Lerdo, in the last five
months, qf scarlatina.
The following foreigners have
been made Mexican citizens : Man-
uel Banjul, Spanish merchant of
Chilapa; Roudolt Tluess, German
merchant of San Luis Potosí; Ger-
man Sanberlich, German merchant
of capital; benigno Daiz <Je Salce-
do, Spanish merchant of capital;
Santiago E. Gaminde, Spanish ma-
riner of Veracruz, and José A.
Hapi's Spanish merchant of Saltil-
lo.
A party of eight baudits assault-
ed the San Carlos ranch, Coahulla,
thinking that Daniel Sada had a
lot of silver there, but finding them
selves disappointed, killed Sr.-Cris-
tobal Medina and robbed his store.
They were pyrsutd and one of thein
killed
At Neeozingo, Veracruz, 8 houses
recently fell injuring a number of
occupants.
A roof on Nino Perdido street,
Mexico city, fell the other day,
burying three children and horri-
bly mutilating them.
All over the republic there is a
great scarcity of small change, and
yet the government refuses to coin
any to satisfy tho demand that has
existed for several years.
It is expected that the recent
graduates at the West Point Mi-
litary Academy will be assigned to
the various assignments when Se-
cretary Endicott returns to Wash-
ington? At the present time there
exists 54 vacancies among the offi-
cers of the army, of which 16 aro
in tho eavalry branch, 7 in the ar-
tillery and 20 in the infantry and
2 in tho engineer corps. After the
assignment of the West Point gra-
duates, the non-commissioned offi-
cers who have passed the examina-
tions by tho Boards convened by
the various departments will be as-
signed. Twelve men were order-
ed before the examining boards.
It is believed that all of them have
successfully passed their examina-
tions. This will make a total of
45 men to be assigned, leaving 9
vacancies. The question has been
raised M'hether or not these vacan-
cies can be filled by civilians or be
allowed to regain unfilled until
the graduation of the large class of
80 at West Point next year.
