custom officers bere last week
seized eighteen borses as being
smuggled, and also arrested
the owners. They then sold
the horses for almotft one-half
their cost.- Now, after an ex-
haustive examination before
Commissioner Wi'nslow, the
owners proved they were not
smuggled but honestly come
by. Still they have no redress.
Angel Vega, a well known
Mexican here, was bitten by
a spider on the left under jaw.

today he died in great agony.

Caldwell, August 11.—The
Paywe Oklahoma colony, which
has been in camp here some
months, is now breaking up
in compliance with instruc-
tions from Captain Couch.
He interprets the present ac-
tion of the administration a#
the inauguration ot a move-
ment which will open up the
Oklahoma country in the near
future. To avoid causing em-
barrassment of the work, he
has requested the colony for
the present to disband. Some
of the colonists will do freight-
ing from Caldwell to Fort
Reno, others have taken hay
contracts. Coucli and Secre-
retary Blackburn remain here
to look after correspondence.
