Jeremiah Townsend, clerk, in, u,savings bank at
New Haven, Coiin., who absconded last $lay with
^100,000, has been cleverly captured in Liverpool,
by two Philadelphia detectives on liis arrival at
that place from Havana, via Southampton. Town-
•xetid sought to use his loaded revolver when cap-
tured, but was jwevented. Nearly $99,000 of the
htolen monqy .was found in his possession. He

over to us, must be treated as captured property
and all claimants thereto must resort to the
Court of claims at Washington, D. C., for re-

foundation in justice and law, it is hoped that
the Cordial assistance of qvpry good "citizen will
be rendered in seenrrng to the Government that
. . whipl< justly belongs to it. We Will npt
nault the good and honorable citizens of Texas
by offering them a bribe, for doing their duty
but I will liberally compensate them for all time
and money expended ; in assisting the Agents
of the Treasury Department in the discharge of
their duties, and any person, Jound dealing in
cotton or other products which shouid be turned
over to the U. S. Treasury Agents will be treat-
ed as embezzlers of Government property, and
will not be permitted to transfcet business with
the office thereafter. All business at this office
will be promptly and impartially attented to,
with as little delay Us possible.
