The new brick Hotel put up by Mr. Collins is
an ornament to the town and an agreeable
iriace at which to stop, Mr. Collins has been
avorably known to ug for a long time, and
well deserves the public patronage,

pan Aqtonlo to Goliad, fifty-five miles frbm the for-
mer and forty miles from the latter. The country
Ground is remarkable for the richness of its soil
and salubrity of climate. Tho central locality of
. Helena, the fertility of soil and its adaptation to
Agriculture, make it ono of the most desirable lo-
cations In Western Texas.
The town ofplelena was commenced about nine
months since and now it numbers over two hund-
red inhabitants. At lhe l*t0 County election, there
were over 200 votes polled.

okiah Parke's, five miles from Gonzales
and two miles from Russel Jones, immediately
on the road from the former place to Victoria.
He will be permitted to serve mares at $S tho
single lsap, or |7 the season, and $10 to in-
sure the mare in foal. The season will com-
menee the 15th of March and end the last of
June. Tbo insurance money will be due when
the mare is known to be in foal or parted with.

the old imported Whip. Powhattan Whip's
dam was sired by the famous horse old Pow-
hattan. his grand 4am by old Celar, Powhat-
tan Whip is a rich brown bay, no wbito about
him, 16 hands one inch high.
Send us some good mares and we will try
and show you some stock next Spring that
will make you think of the days of old Whip.

PARAGON.
season at the farmers stand, in the town of
Gonzales, and at Benjamin Woed's in the Barbour
Settlement, and at the town of Moultoo. He is a
deep sorrel, is sixteen hands high, of fine form
ai.d muscle, and waa fbaldod the 28th of March,
1848. His colts compare favorably with any in
this sectloa of the State.

There will be awarded a premium of a diver
cup to the best year old colt by Paragon, and alao
one to the best suckling; the premiums to be
awarded in May, 185G. Breed your best mares
and take tho premium.
Pedigree^
PARAGON waa sired by the celebrated Ohm-
powder, and he by the American Eclipse. (Gun-
powder'a Pedigree will be givén in ftili hereafter.)
Paragon's dam was by Mattbewa' Peacock of Ala-
bama, Matthews' Peaoock by the imported Peaoock
of South Carolina; grandam by Col. Kilpatrick's
imported Gamester.
