Rev. Wright, pastor of the
Christian church had a relig-
eos sensus of the town taken
a few weeks ago. It will
probably be a great help to
the pastors of the town and
they can see same by calling
at our office.
Knox City bas been bless-
ed with some rain, sleet and
snow today, and a cold wave
has reigned over this section
for several (lays.
The man who owns prop-
erty in and around our city
and who sits back in his old
rocking chair, and will not
contribute anything for the
betterment of the town, he
who says she is good enough
as sho is, he is the man who
the town misses less.(
A good rain would be the
cause of everythihg and ev-
erybody taking on new life in
this section and would settle
the sand for a time.
The marketing oí cotton in
Knox City continues and from
the looks of some of tne fields
near town there will be cotton
coming in sixty days from
date.
Now summer is coming on
and hot weather will soon be
on. It would be advisable for
all to take a general clean-
ing up, that things may look
fret-h and nice. Don't wait to
see who will be the first, but
try and be first yourself.

The great amount of build-

in our little city speaks well
for her, and the many others
to start soon add much to the
town. The town with a
steady growth and not the
one on a boom will make a
showing in after years. While
Knox City has never been on
S boom, the saws and kam-
Jtoers *re continually at work,

the farmer can
supply his needs?
Reason certainly answers
" YEtí!"
But do you think such is the
caso? make inquiry and find out.
This is not written in any spir-
it of malice, or to injure ttDy one,
for no one believes any stronger
in patronizing home merchants
than the writer, but this is to call
the attention of ALL to this glar-
ing.inconsistency .
We all know that this country
can produce everything in the
produce line that is needed for
home consumption, the only
thing needful for same to be done
is the assurance that the produce
will De handled by the heme mer-
chants, as far as there is a de-
mand for same.
Some time since the progres-
sive farmers of this seotion or-
ganized a truck grower's associ-
ation for loosening.tho shackles
King Cotton has bound upon
them, but does any one suppose
that such a move can succted
without the support and encour-
agement of the business men?
\Vo think not.
No one feels more keenly than
the writer,,the needs oí moro en-
érpriaea in our town, and no one
will do more according to abil-
ity to bring about such a happy
result, but, if "Civilization be-
gins and ends with the plow,'
we think that to build up or try
to build up a town without first
giving agrioulture every stimu-
lus possible, is beginning in the
air to construct a residence. If
towns are to succeed and build
up, town and country must work
in harmony—neither can attain
the highest measure of success
without the other.
some of our neighboring towns
notably, Stamford and Abilene
are setting us an example worthy
emulation in this respect.
Now in conclusion let us all
heed the call of reason and not
not try to piok the mote frt>m our
brother's eye when there is a
beam in our own eye
