RULES OF THE WINCHESTER JUNIOR RIFLE CORPS MEDAL COMPETITION
fnr í J trr
■ • o "** ■ n. .• m i '
The importance of rifle shooting
as a general practice cannot be ov-
erestimated. Rifle shooting is the
question of the hour, of today, of
tomorrow, and of every day after
tomorrow; its practice should be in-
sisted upon even after the existing
excitement as to National Defense
has subsided.
The sport of (hooting is the greatest developer of p'ersonal re-
sources—mental quickness, fair play, steady nerves, control, and
ability to mix in manly competition with companions.
To encourage marksmanship among the boys and girls of Am-
erica under, 16 years of age, the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., has
organized the Winchester Junior Rifle Corps, an honorary club with
membership among the boys and girls all over the country. There
are no dues and the boy or girl who becomes a member does not as-
sume any military duty. The Winchester Junior Rifle Corps is in no
way connected with the government. Just one thing is necessary to
belong to this club and that is skill with a Winchester 22 Rifle.
As evidence that you are a member of the Winchester Junior
Rifle Corps, the Winchester Company will present you with a Silver-
plated Marksman Medal and a Gold-plated "Sharpshooter" Medal
when you have made targets that entitle you to them with a Win-
chester 22 Rifle and Winchester ammunition.
Here are the
Rules
Get from us a pad of Winchester 22 Rifle targets. We will fur-
nish them free.
Fill out a registration blank which we will provide and you will
be entered as a contestant in the Winchester Junior Rifle Corps
Medal Competition'
Now find some place where you can shoot your 22 rifle without
danger of hitting anybody, tack up your target and pace off fifty
feet. Then, in the presence of a friend or companion, who will act
as witness, shoot five shots into the target.
Take it down and put up another. Shoot five shots into the
second. Shoot as many targets as you like, always being sure to
shoot no more than five shots into each target. If you should miss
the target entirely, each miss counts one shot just the same.
The bull's eye in the target counts 5, the small circle outside the
bull's eye, 4, the next circle 3, the next 2. Shotjs which strike at the
edge of any circle count as being in the highest scoring circle.
As long as you observe the rules of the contest and until you
reach the age of 16, you can shoot as much and as often as you
please. You will be judged by the targets you make.
When you have made 10 targets, each scoring 19 out of the pos-
sible 25 points, sign with your full name, have your friend who wit-
nessed the making of the score also sign each target, then bring
them to us and we will forward them to the Winchester Repeating
Arms Company
You will then be entitled lo a Winchester Silver-plated "Marks-
man" Medal, which the Winchester Company will send as soon as
they receive the winning targets. We will deliver to you ■ diploma
signed by the President of Winchester Repeating Arms Co., certi-
fying to your having earned the title of "Marksman." We will then
deliver the medal to you.
You will be entered at the headquarters of
Junior Rifle Corps as a Winchester "Marksman "
the Winchester
Sixty days later you will be ready to try for the Gold-plated
"Sharpshooter" Medal. The "Sharpshooter" title and th« gold-plat-
ed medal are not so eusily earned. During the sixty days that must
elapse between earning the "Marksman" Medal and contesting for
the "Sharpshooter" Medal it will be necessary for you to keep up
your practice to make the required IS targets, each scoring 24 out
of a possible 25.
You can do it if you try hard enough and practice faithfully.
Get these targets signed as before and you will receive your
Winchester Gold-plated "Sharpshooter" Medal and Diploma.
You will be entered at Winchester Junior Rifle Corps Head-
quarters as a Winchester "Sharpshooter."
You will be a Sharpshooter in fact as well as in name, a real
crack shot, and a mighty valuable person to your country as well.

A Secret
For the first time in cream separator
history, the centrifugal force is made
to do double service. In addition to
I separating the milk, it has been made
to suck the milk from the supply
^can into the bowl.
In this way the feed and the separa-
ting force work together. At all speeds,
just enough milk is sucked into the
bowl to assure perfectly clean skimming.
That's the secret of
THI NEW
SHARPLES
SUCTION-PEEO
Separator. Old-style separators all have
a fixed feed, so that if the speed is lowered,
too much milk runs through the bowl.
The result is that some of it runs out
into the skim milk without being separa-
ted and some runa out into the cream,
making it thin and uneven. n
Any member of the family may turn
the New Sharpies to suit his own
convenience. It always skims
clean and delivers even cream.
The women folks prefer the
Sharpies because of its simple,
tubular bowl—only
three pieces to wash
and care for.
Stop in at the atore the
next time you are in town
and let ua show you this
new machine in actual use.
Bring the women folks, too.
The Success
of a great many Kleberg County Farmers is due
to a Sharpies Separator. They come in different sizes.
