New York, March 30.—Private ad-
vices state that a conference in now bo-
ing held by the accredited CommiuHion-
ui'B of the Central Aiuericun Powers at
St. Miguel, and ji treaty íh nearly con-
cluded, by which the State of Nicara-
gua becomes extinct, and the other
parties ot the treaty, viz: Guatemala,
San Salvador, Honduras and Costa
Rica, shall divide the present Republic
of Nicaragua among themselves, ac-
cording to the proposition by the Gov-
ernment of Nicarjigiin, over the name
of Patricio Kivas, President of said
Republic.
New York, March 30.—Letters from
Nicaragua say that the force of Gen.
Walker has been reduced to 400 meir;
and that a convention has been held at
San Miguel to discuss tho partition of
Nicaragua among the Costa Ricans,
Snlvadorians and Honduras, Nicaragua
consenting tt the division.

The now steamship Galveston, Capt.
Davilson, arrived at tho Central wharf
at half past two o'clock p. n., having
loft tho terminus ot tho Opelousis Rail
road on Berwick's Bay ut 2 r. m. yester-
day.
A salute of 32 guns was fired by the
City Artillery, in honor of this opening
of a now channel of trade and travel
to our city and State.
This being the first trip on an entire
ly new and untried route, the necessity
for taking the soundings through Atch-
nfulayott Buy, lias of contrae, made the
timo longer than tho average trips.—
But wo aro glad to learn that this
splendid steamship met with no difll
culty in making her passage.
We understand that the Galveston
had to go up Bayou Bocuf 8 miles to
the railroad, but that the road will be
completed to Berwick's Bay by tho 20th

On Tuesday morning U. 8.

power-press mil steam engine of the
Free Democrat establishment at- Mil-
watikie, the property of Mr. S. MT
Booth, to satisfy a judgment obtain-
ed against him some time since in
the IT. S. District Court before
Judge Miller, for having assisted in
tho escape of a slave claimed by
man named Garland. Tho bidui
was not spirited, most of those pre-
sent beingdisinclined to have anything
to do with slave-catching. On the
third call the press was knocked down
at $160, and the same person bid off
the engine at S25, having no com-
petitor. Thq. first was apraised at
$2,100, the latter at SG00. Mr.
Booth at once got .out a writ of
replevin which was served on the
purchaser, and tbe property again
in his hands, he having first given his
bonds to deliver \t up in case the
suit to test the relative strength of
the State and the Federal law should
go against h'm. It will be remember-
ed that the Wisconsin Legislature has
passed s law at its present session,
known in its incipient stages as the
"Personal Liberty Bill,,! at la*e
