Mr, Max Schwartz contemplates
making an etxensive addition to

cently purchased from the Pierce

he will occupy it as his private
residence.
Some one having expressed a
desire to know how the real estate
owners of the city of Schulenburg
feel in regard of the proposed bond
issue for the water works system
a few of vthe business men were
afforded an opportunity of expres-
sing their sentiments by signing
the following petition. It was im-
possible to see any great n urn her
of the citizen reality owners on ae
count of the limited time and the
fact that a number of them are in
attendance upon the Houston fes-
tivities, the list however, clearly
indicates the tend of the tide.
We, the following real estate
owners in and Citizens of the city
of Schulenburg unqualifiedly favor
the proposed tax for a construction
of a system of water works by said
city.

The contention having been
made that a water works system
such as proposed would not result
in any material.;reduction of pres-
ent insurance! we give below the
basis upon which the rates for
Shiner which is a second-class and
and Schulenburg which is a fourth
class town are built. If any one
doubts the correctness of these
rates he can readily verify them by
referring the subject to Messrs.
Wolters Bros., or C. K. Holchak,
Insurance agents at Shiner or to
any insurance authority in Texas.
It should also be remembered that
the rates given for Shiner also are
in effect in Weimar, so there should
be nb trouble in verifying them.
Basis for business risk:
Shiner and ail other' second-class
towns:
Class of building, A B C
Rate, 70 80 100
Scbulenburg and all other fourth-
class towns:
Class of building, A B C
Rate, 100 115 140
Basis for dwellings:
Shiner and all other second-class
towns: ' ' ■
Class of building', B C D
Rate, 55 75 95
Schulenburg $nd all other fourth-
class towns:
Class of building, BCD
Rate, 75 95 T20
If opr citizens, possessing this
information, will investigate the
subject in a business like manner
it will require but very lit tie time
ibr them to determine if the" bond
issue will be a benefit or a detri-
ment. It is not necessary .that
anyone should accept the figures
which we used: write some insur-
ance agent in Shiner or Weimar or

better still, write^ Mr. Jefferson
Johnson, Insurance Commissioner
for the state of Texas, at Austin
snd ask him if they are correct. If
they are, they will reduce the
present insurance rates in i Schu

water works will be a Gods bless-

such a reduction will not accrue
then water works is a farce. It is

Mr. Christian Grabler, who is
building an artistic cottage, cf
modern design just west of the
public academy, entertained a
number of his friends at a feast
last I'hursday afternoon and even-
ing. In perfecting his program
he proceeded in a most sys-
tematic manner having had not
only all the requisite with which
to gratify and appease the inner
man but likewise speakers to ad-
dress his quests and a choir to
provide music for their pleasure
and entertainment. The occa-
sion was unique in its conception
and will be Ions' remembered. ,
