Rodeo declares tickets sales 'tops'

Organizers and board members of the Tops
in Texas Rodeo were more than satisfied with
ticket sales for the annual event.
Rodeo president Byron Underwood said an
estimated 3,000 tickets were sold, bringing
in at least $25,000.
"It's about what wo expected this year,'' he
said. "We were worried that sales would be
slower because of the heat.
"However, we did better this year on Thurs-
day night than we did last year and Friday
and Saturday were about the same.
Mr. Underwood said the event benefitted
from rainy weather for the Thursday and
Friday sessions.
"Getting that rain helped us out because
it cooled things off,'' he said. "It was a good
event
Mr. Underwood said he was happy that the
rodeo chew in large crowds from across the
county and across the area.
"This was one of the best rodeos that we've
had in a while," he said. "We had great cow-
boys androdeo clowns. Itwastop-notchfrom
start to finish."
Mr. Underwood saicl the final numbers on
the rodeo would be compiled in a few weeks,
but he was excited with how well the event
turned out.
"I would say that this year's Tops in Texas
Rocleo was a success, he said. "We had great
crowds, great performers ancl a wonderful
atmosphere.
"I want to thank all of our spoilsors. as
well as the Lions Club and the Riders Club
for making this a success. Everyone did a
super job.''

Campers and staff are from Bullard, Chandler, Jacksonville, Rusk and Tyler.
Camp ended July 16 with a performance of the Christian Musical "Down By
the Creek Bank" at Buckner Chapel followed by a cast party.

independence day program
Independence Day was celebrated July 3 at the Calvary Baptist Church in
Rusk. The sermon focused on Christian principles upon which the country
was founded. Patriotic hymns were sung. Woodmen of the World presented
a large U.S. flag to the congregation to honor those who have served in the
armed forces. Hamburgers, hotdogs and trimmings were served. From left
are Pastor Ben Talley, J.D. Pierce, Rev. Ben Talley Sr., Bill Turner, Al Ether-
edge and Leon Monk.

Nomination for county committee
are underway through Aug. 1, said
Cherokee and Rusk County USDA
Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive
Director Chris Lynn.
Elected county committee mem-
bers serve a three-year term and are
responsible for making decisions on
FSAdisaster, conservation, commod-
y and price support programs, as
well as other important federal farm
program issues.
Producers may nominate them-
selvesorothersascandidates. County
committees are comprised of three to
five members elected by local produc-
ers. All newly elected county committee
members and alternates will take office
Jan. 2,2012.
Nomination forms must be post-
marked or received in the local USDA
Service Center by close of business
on Aug. 1, 2011.

Rusk Booster Club ads
now available
The Rusk Eagle Athletic Booster
Club is now taking orders for adver-
tisements in programs for football,
basketball, baseball and softball.
Black and white quarterpage ads
are $60, while a half-page black and
white ad is $95.
A full-page black and white ad
is $150 and a color full-page ad is
$220. Color is only available for full-
page ads.
A late fee of $25 will be charged
after the deadline dates and late ads
will only be accepted as space and
time allows.
The deadline for ads for the football
program is Aug. 1. The basketball
deadline is Dec. 9 and the softball/
baseball deadline is Feb. 15, 2012.
