Subscription drive donation appreciated by Crime Stoppers
JOHN HAWKINS
Jacksonville
Over the past several months, the
Cherokeean Herald has been running
a subscription promotion where, for
each new subscription, a portion of the
proceeds went directly to the Cherokee
County Crime Stoppers program.
On behalf of Crime Stoppers, I would
like to offer my gratitude for everyone
who did subscribe and of course, to
Terrie Gonzalez for the inspiration to
initialize the promotion.
According to the latest statistics, one
in every five people will be affected by
some type of crime.
When you think Cherokee County
extends from Bullard to Wells and the
Neches River to Reklaw , it becomes clear
that it isn't possible for our law enforce-
ment personnel to cover the entire area
at all times.
That is where Cherokee County Crime
Stoppers steps in.
Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit,
police-community program that offers
cash awards for tips that might solve
crimes and to allow tipsters to remain
anonymous.
Over the past several years, these
tips have lead to solving several high-
profile murders in the county, as well
as assaults, burglaries, robberies and
thefts.
We are able to offer these rewards
thanks to the generous donations from
individuals, businesses and the Chero-
kee County Probation department.
The contributions from the new
Cherokeean Herald subscribers and
Whitehead Enterprises amounted to
$700.
That money may well go to help solve
a crime you've been a victim of.
Cherokee Crime Stopper s board is
made up by volunteers, with lOOpercent
of all donations going directly to solving
crimes in our county.
I encourage you to participate in pro-
tecting our community by making a tax
deductible donation.
Once again, a huge thanks to Terrie
Gonzalez, Whitehead Enterprises, and
especially to every ilew subscriber that
participated in fighting local crime.
Thank you.

We enjoy reading the Cherokeean each week and look forward to it.
Thank you for producing such an excellent newspaper.
Sunday, Sept, 11, 2011, is
certainly a day that our family
will never forget.
What started as a phoile
call from a friend warning of
an approaching fire turned
into a surreal nightmare.
Even though we have the
distinction of having the
Forest Service name a fire
after us, we certainly did not
seek the notoriety.
The fire that swept over our
place consumed almost 1,000
acres of our family's dream,
yet we are grateful for what
we have,.
Mainly, in the Alto
community, we have the
greatest bunch of neighbors
that any family could ever
wish for.
We owe a great debt of
appreciation to good men
and women from all over the
country andreally don't know
how to thank everyone.
Three brave men voluntarily
climbed onto the roof of our
home and risked their lives to
help preserve our home.
They ask for nothing in
return and when the news
media uses term "heroes,''
they need to understand that
people like these men are the
true heroes.
There were truly a great
many people from all walks
of fife that gave their all to
help save what they could of
our dream ranch.
Unfortunately, we lost
a lot, but we also gained a
