Sunday 13th Aug 1871 at Buckhorn
Charles            Camp Rickens Co Chickasaw Nation
I wrote a pencil letter day before yesterday and sent it to
Sherman by Mr R. Y. Mangum. Started to write it up Journal
fashion but had to bob off short. Well I cant now get time
to finish out re-win journal style but will bring up
but two of
the main points. We will probably be left by all            our
friends at this camp tomarrow morning. We have here
now Aleck Shirley + wife + Mr Bettis Wife + 2 good loking
daughters. These all start for home tomarrow morning
Mr Shelton + Mr Taylor 2 independent horsemen will
remain with us They are from Smith county one of
them knows Jesse Morris. 0 yes    We will have
2 more familys from Whitesboro One of this lost party is
Lawyer Cravens whose residence# is said to be in Rusk
Co.   We have had with us Hill Dillard formerly of Izard
brotherinlaw of Noah Sheid Mr Moore Mr Lamier + Mr Fowler
(the boys)
those last Shive near Whites boro Their camp we            called
the ram Camp very clever folks + found 2 bee trees
Over at the Oil springs  they had 2 fresh arrivals yesterday
Ramsey + Montgonmery from Near Whites boro. They had
previous to that Mr Thompson a pleasant man; 4 2 or 3
others from Rusk Co also. They have also Mr Clements
from Grayson I suppose we have 30 in all
Most people report favorably of the effect of the
waters We drink; 4 use Sulphur water mostly but every
morning we all take a big drink of iol water which
is a rather bilious dose to many  Here comes cravens now  one nigger
along
