University of Texas student who
talks to himself and who'll listen
injry radio, will go on a coast to'
taint network tonight as the col-
legiajle guegt artist on Fred Al-
len's Star tehater show.
Joe Phipps, monologuist, was
the student selected by campus
vote to represent his university
on the Allen program, heard at 8
p. m., CST., Wednesday night,
Dec,.% on Columbia Broadcasting
.system stations.
Phipps was announced by Allen
Wednesdaiy night as winner ot the
recent talent contest conducted on
the university campus. Fifty-six
students took part in the prelimi-
naries of the content, with three
being selected for finals which
were broadcast over several Tex
as stations.
Phipps' part of the program will
feature a political discussion ap-
plicable equally in Texas and
throughout the' nation. A law
student who grew up in Austin,
he docs no impersonations but
portrays characters from a pattern
■of-speech. —
Other finalists in the contest
were Cleveland Wheelus of Kerr-
ville and Pichard "Cactus" Pryor
of Austin.
