Co-eds Win
By Default
The Rice Co-eds won by default
(heir last game of the pre-holiday sea-
son. Monday night they Were sched-
uled to play the Milby Memorial
sextet, but the Milby team failed to
appear, thereby defaulting to the Rice
Owlettes.
Coach Mavis Ehlert intends to put
her charges through several more
practice sessions before letting them off
for the holidays. She has been highly
pleased with the showing of her play-
ers thus far, and will spend the early
part of January polishing off the rag-
ged points in time for the Church
league tournament which will start the
latt.u- part of January or early in Feb-
ruary.
The Rice team has ap excellent
chance of retaining their undisputed
title of undefeated champions in this
tournament, with the First Baptist
giving them a run for their money.

to Germany the world's record for
number of languages one person can
read, write and apeak as well as un-
derstand.
The professor has mastered 140 lan-
guages, which is believed to be all the
languages there are in the world.
He speakB perfectly ton Germanic,
eleven Roman, fourteen Slavonic,
twelve East-Indogermanic, four We«t-
Indogermanic, eleven Finnish-Urgian,
fourteen Asiatic, fifteen Indian, four-
teen Semetic, eighteen African, sis
South Sea Island and four American
languages.
Moreover, he knows all the artificial
languages, of which Esperanto is the
best known. Says he:
"My purpose in learning all these
languages was to get at the root of
the origin of th* world's tongues. I
believe every nation's language to be
the most reliable guage of its civili-
zation."
