Campanile Names
Ten Favorites
As the result of elections held
last fall, ten Rice girls were
chosen to reign as favorites for
the 1956-57 school year. Selected
by the vote of the entire school
for this honor were Patti Black-
ledge. Penny Blackledge, Sue
Carroll Brugier, Lin Davis, Lin-
da Davis, Carolyn Dearmond,
Beverly Montgomery, Ann Page,
Rilda Richardson, and Dixie Sick.
The pictures of these ten girls
will appear in the Vanity Fair
section of the 1957 Campanile,
along with those of the honorees,
the beauties, and the royalty
from Rondelet and Arfchi-Arts.
ENCYCLOPEDIA DRAWING
A 30-volume set of Encyclo-
pedia Americana valued at
$475 will be given away to-
morrow at 10 a.m. in the
lounge. All students may re-
gister for the drawing, which
is free. There is no obligation
and the winner does not have
to be present at the drawing.
The new volumes of the
Americana contain an article
by Dr. Houston on atomic
energy.
Visiting Honorees Here For
Pageant At 4 P.M. Saturday
Honorees from nine area schools will be visit-
ing Rice Institute during the Rondelet weekend
May 3-5. These girls will participate in the
Rondelet pageant on Saturday at 4 PM and
will be present at the dance Saturday night at
Houston Club.
Barbara Alford, a majorette from TCU, will
be escorted by Joe Williams.
Texas is sending this year's Uni-
versity Sweetheart Celia Bu-
chan. Peggy Healy and David
Cooney will represent the Uni-
versity of St. Thomas.
The 1957 TSCW Redbud Queen
Norma Clare Leister will be es-
corted by Frank Ferlow. Helen
Marie McCarthy and Henry Cole-
man Christopher will represent
the SMU Mustangs. Sam Hous-
ton State Teachers College's Jer-
ry Jo Scarborough and Amos
Adams and Baylor majorette
Marcia White and Bill Hugghins
will represent their respective
schools.

Rondelet Dance Set
For Houston Club
The setting for Saturday
night's Rondelet dance has been
changed from Lakeside Coun-
try Club to the Texas Room of
the Houston Club.
As a special feature of the
dance, the identity of the 10
outstanding seniors, a much
guarded secret of the Campan-
ile, 'will j'be divulged. The out-
of-town honorees will also be
presented.
Ed' Gerlach's 18 piece orches-
tra will play, for the dancer
which lasts from 9 to 1. The
$4.00 a <couple tickets will be on
sale in the lounge today and at
the door Saturday night.
Saturday, May 4 at 4 PM on the lawn beside
Cohen House the Rice Rondelet court and visit-
ing royalty will be formally presented to the
public. Coming down a runway decorated to
carry out the oriental theme from "Tfite King
and I" will be Queen Dixie Sick and her king
and two princesses, Lynne Koehler and Naomi
j Robins with their escorts.
i The court will be dressed in
! bouffant full length dresses of
| shades of turquoise and rose.
Each class royalty will have a
different shade of the theme col-
ors. Flowers on oriental fans
will be carried.
Jody Lawrence
Jody Lawrence, wfho played
Anna in Theater, Inc.'s "The King
and I'' will be featured in sev-
eral numbers for the entertain-
ment of the court. Children
dressed in the traditional Siamese
manner will participate in ^the
various scenes. Music will be
from the original score.
Angela Jones, duchess from the
Senior class will be dressed in
turquoise as will Florence Gray,

MRS. HOUSTON
PLANS COFFEE
Tomorrow morning-, from 9:30
to 11:30 a.m., Mrs. W. V. Hous-
ton will be hostess for the Coffee
honoring the Rondelet out-yf-
town gu^ts and the court.
All women students at Rice are
invited to the coffee to l>e held
at the president's home.
This open-house is one of the
many activities of the annual
Rondelet Weekend, which began
yesterday.
Rondelet Guests May
Visit Colleges May 4'
Tomorrow, May 4, the four col-
leges will hold their first gen-
eral open houses.
The men's colleges will be open
for inspection by anyone inter-
ested. This includes the individ-
ual rooms, the lounges, and the
dining halls.
Wiess College will he open
from 1:00-4:00 P.M. Hanszett
College will be open from 1:00-
4:30 P.M.
Although not announced of-
ficially, it is assumed that the
other two colleges, Will Rice and
Baker, wilt have their open
houses at approximately the same
time.
