Yennor's weather predictions
for this month, from 15th to 20th,
have failed here—instead of those
cold north winds, frosts &c—on
the 15th the weather changed
from hotest to hotestest, and has
tield its own pretty well ever since.

Our enterprising horticulturist,
Mr. L. C. White, has sent us a

The Board of Directors of tbe
Huntsville.New Orleans (iihi Wes-
tern Railway Company have called
a meeting of tbe stockholders of
said company to be held in tho, city
of Quutsville, Texas, on the 27tb
day of September 1881. See notice
of mooting in another column. As'
we havfe heretofore stated, this is
a road in which tbo busiuess men,
•:spocially, of Now Orleans should
feel much interested, as it will be
wheu completed, tbe shortest and
most direct connecting link be-
tween that city and the great pro-
ductive hoart of Texas; having
many other lines as fcedeiH.
In this issue will be found tho
advertisement of tho A. & M. Col-
lego of Texas. We have received
the sixth annual catalogue of tho
school, and after careful examina-
tion of its contents, we feel 110 hes-
itancy in recommending tho A. &
M. College, under its present man-
agement, to every young man who
may wish to add to a literary
course, a complete technical
course, embracing all the useful
and practical arts and sciences.
We advise every one who may
think of patronizing tlio school to
send for a catalogue, which will
give all desired information.
Tho 4th anuual term of tbe S.E.
T. M. & F. College, will open on
Monday tbo 5th of September.
Let all those who contemplate at-
tending tbo school, be here prompt-
ly at the opeuing of tbe term—as
it will be best tor them, and more
nonveuient for the teachcrn. Prof,
and Mrs MuCrobau are too well
known as educators to need com-
mendation from any one.

As we were composedly saun
ing along to our place of business
on Houston Street, the other day,
we heard a rumbling noise like the
sound of a young earthquake in'!
the store of one of our principal
business men, and speculating on
the probable cause of this unusual
rambling, we walked in, and the
sight which met our eyes was one
to shake the equilibrium of the
best balanced mind: It seems our
fun-loving young Druggist con-
cluded, as the day was somewhat
dull and things growing rather
monotonous, to raise an excite-
ment—enough at least to break
the todium—the sequel shows that
his measures wore wisely taken:
He wt the door of the aforesaid
storo,erawlod in stealthily and find-
ing clerk asleep, ho got among
some pot-ware, close at hand and
mado a most dismal nyise, which
suddenly aroused tho aforemen-
tioned somnolent clerk, who in-
stantly sprang frowvhij horizontal
position, atffl 'jusfrtRSreiflatlE*^?!1
appearance wo saw the aether part
of his coat-ancedotc disappearing
through the door with lightning
rapidity and tho Druggist con-
vulsed with laughter and spasmod-
ically yelling, "look out for the
comet!" * g.
