Sinco onr last week's report there
lino been u further advance in cotton
in this market, and we now quote
from 16 ty 17c. per pound—specie.
Wo have heard of one or rpore sales,
during thq. week, us ,liigh an 17|c.,
but in these there waa 'large trade.'
Tho latest telegraphic advice from
New Orleans, quotes middling cot-
ton at 25c. currency, and gold at
1291, which, when compared with
our home market,. taking into con-
sideration the n cccssaiy expense of
shipping and Belling, leaves no mar-
gin for buyers here; all of which
goos to strengthen the fact that Jef-
ferson is tho heal market to sell your
• cotton. >
Wo have no changes t o note in
our general market report.
Notwithstanding the low stage of
water, we, have had several steam-
boat arrivals during the past week.
The iluo. stcamm's Dixie and George,
reached tho wharf. Tho Flavilla,
Flirt, and Lotus No. 2., discharged
thoir cargoes at Boon's Bend, Tho
i-'Hrt came direct from St. Louis, and
will drobahly remain in the trade.
