Committee tnstain Him—Inflammatory
• Speeches by Sherman and Hotemrd.
News has just reached us of ^ery im-
, portent character, end we stop ■ the press to
insert it. The Courf, the day before yester-
' day, issaed a subpoena for A. H. Reader to
appe« before the Grand Jury. The Depa-
tjj Marshal .was directed to serve the proceffl,
and immediately proceeded to' Teonnweh,
where Reader was then attending the session
-ofthe Goanittee, and served the summons.
Reedgr told the Marshal emphatically that
attend. Upon such return
t-Jbdreatada, Jadge Lecompto issued an at-
t taahroent, and the officer proceeded on yes-
terday to Lawrence to serve it. He found
' Reeder in the Committee room, and infbrm-
. «d him of the attachment he had against
ntm; whereupon Reeder told the Marshal
" If he laid bis hands upon him, it would be
. -at the peril of bis life." He said he wt.u!d
not obey the summons, he did not recognise
• K* legality, and that he was exempt from
•any arrests, " being a delegate to Congress
from Kansas Terr toryand repeated again,
if the Marshal attempted to execute the at-
« taehment, he should do it at the peril of his
• life. During the remarks of Reeder he was
• several times applauded by the crowd gath-
ered in the room and around the house at the
and wiodows. - Upon Reeder s taking
! Ins seat; Sherman, one of the Committee, .in
a very animated and warm manner, sustained
■ Reeder in*his entire position, acknowledging
and that " no*fytIe territorial court" had the
power to intenai^t Mr. Reeder, or that body,
by the arrest of MryReeder. He was sacred
- fhhn tbg famcfi T^aiq^such attachments. He
. said that they (the Cofknyttee) had sufficient
Erands.'and 'tbepbweti t(> Jiave every niern-
r of the Grand-Jury and the Court arrest
and sent to Washington. He said 'many
other things- of u similar character, that iu-
flamed the crowd to frequent outbursts of ap-
r plause for Sherman, and expression of resist-
_ ance to the laws. Immediately after Sher-
man concluded, Howard, the other abolition
- Member, arose, and sustained both Reeder
■ and Sherman. His remarks were passionafc.
aod inflammatory, and were received by the
crowd in the same manner as Reeder's and
% Sherman's.
Mr. Oliver several times requested the
Committee not to do or say anything in the
mate r. It was & matter on which tbey had
v so authority _ to aet, that Reed was not a
put of them, and that his presence and free
privileges were only allowed through court e
' tf. He nor Mr. Whitfield had no r ght to
' demand of them any privilege that they
were forced to obey, further than courtesy
compelled them. He' said that this was a
• . point sprung, -knd unanimously consented to
Ih the beginning of the'investigarion, and
' that he was surprised to see gentlemen pur
r' suing the course they had upon this occa
•ion.
Mr. Oliver said that he, as a committee-
inn, feeling he had no right or authority to
act in the matter, would do nothing. Messrs.
Howard and Sherman still persisted in their
course. The Marshal returned without nia^
king any arrests, and so the matter remains
*np"to this time. These are the facts, just
•communicated to us by gentlemen present
during the proceedings, and, if wehadtTme,
should take their affidavits to the statement.
After, the remarks of Mi. Oliver, Reeder
very indignantly and insultingly told Mr.
Oliver that no man who acknowledged him-
self a lawyer would dissent from the opinions
of Messrs. Howard and Sherman that be was
privileged from arrest as a Territorial dele-
gate;-and repeated, "that if the Marshal
laid h 'nd* upon' him, that he would do it at
tbepe il'of his life.

IMPORTANT DISCOVERY 11
rpHE reason why^oriTKaglan has not stormed
JL Sevastopol, has been mainly owing to the
weak and enfeebled condition of the Allied Armies,
caused by their unparalleled sufferings in an inhos-
pitable climate. It has now been clearly ascer-
tained to have been produced by the absence of
Robertsons Tonic Hitters, which
would have supported and invigorated even the i
hardy soldiers, so much that those armies would ]
have been in a robust and healthy condition aud j
his lorship could, with ea3e and elegance, have
effected his object It is now whispered in certain
circles that the attention of Her Majesty's Govern-
ment with that of France has been drawn to this
most Important fact, and that commissions from
both Governments will issue to procure a supply
adequate to the wants. Wo do not know exactly
how F. T. Duffau, Congress Avenue, Austin,

Bugiies Printing Telegraph
Instrument.
New Yomt, May 18.-^We are gratified
learn that this wonderful invention has at
last received its finishing touch, and will be
immediately placed upon the new line between
this city aad Philadelphia.
Wo are-assured, upon undoubted author-
ity, that the machines, so far 8S it h?s been
possible to test them through a. coil of wire
one hundred miles in length, have realised
the most sanguine expectations of Mr. Hughes
and his friends, and there appears to be no
reason to donbt but that the invention will
speedily work an entire revolution in tele
graphing throughout the world. This inven-
tion may be called a printing press and tele
graph combined, for it prints all messages in
{4 jUi-J Roman eapitals, with unerring correct
ness, and at an almost incredible ra e o<
spead, averaging, in the ordinary despatch of
business, from twenty thousand to twenty
five thousand letters per hour The Hughes
instrument clearly demonstrates tho practiea-.
bility of sending and receiving messages in
opposite directions, over the same wire at the
same instant of time, and with the utmost
ease, regulaii y and certainty. It will con-
i sequently require but one wire and one ope
ratorat any given point, to send and receive
* 'as much business as can be transacted by the
aid of four or five operators and an equal
number of wires under the Morse system.
Another equally important peculiarity con-
- nected with the Hughes invention, is the
undoubted fact that it wiil work perfectly in
all states of the atmosphere, neither rain,
mist, nor snow having any perceptible effect
upon it. Therefore, at seasons when the
Morse and House instruments are utterly
powerless, even in circuits of fifty miles,
there is every reason to believe that the
Hughes instruments will work reliably in
eireaits of one or two thousand miles. The
simylicity and durability of tbe new machine
will eompare favorably with the Morse, and
is vastly superior in these respects to the
House.invention. The governing principle
of this invention is wholly dissimar to that of
the Moree, House, and- other telegraph in-
struments, and consequently there can be no
difficulty on the score of the patent, which,
we nadftstand has been sold to tho Ameri-
can Telegraph Company, (a new association

great importance of a remedy which weuld effect-

they have discovered tbe GREAT REMEDY, which

The following is extracted from a letter reeeiv

Merchant of Texas.
" Your Cherokee Liniment was used by a Far-
mer in GrimesCounty, as a substitute for Calomel.
Turpentine, Tobacco Juice, or Fish Oil, aud ttie
result was, it destroyed the .Maggots immediately,
and the smell of it proved so offensive to tbe Blew
Fly, that they would not make a second attack
where the Liuimeut had been applied to an injury
In that section, Calomel and other remedtes are
entirely superceded, and much expense saved to
stock raisers. —

vouch for thc efficacy of your Cherokee Liniment,
from personal observation, and 1 unhesitatingly
recommend it to all persons engaged in raising, or
having Cattle, Horses, Hogs, Sheep, etc. Thc ap-
plication is simple, and in no case has it produced
any bad effects. Shake the bottle well before
using, and apply with a feather or brush; sufficient
to saturate tbe place where the worms arc depos-
ited, and they will vacate and fall dead in five
minutes. It is seldom necessary to make more
than* one application.
