EPWORTH LEAGUE
.. IS ENTERTAINED'
The Epworth League was cleverly
entertained Thursday evening with an
auto social on the lawn of the home
of Rev. and Mrs. J. T. Howell. Auto-
mobile signs, such as "Stop, look, and
loosen a sm:

yard," were posted , about the lawn,
which was lighted by electricity.
The guests were divided into, three
groups, Fords, Hudsons, and Dodges,
each group having a yell which...they
used during the evening. Contests
were competed in by the three groups
The -Hudson's won most points, ac-
cording to the judges, and were pre-
sented with, a sack of peanuts tied
with the"~'Eeagae"-''eo'lors,' gold, and

This church is putting on a general
educational program in which all
phases of its work are receiving-
special attention. * A Sunday School
Teacher Training Course with a class
enrollment of about thirty, is being
conducted by Superintendent S. W,
Cooper. Weekly rebeasals are being
conducted in both..votal and instru-
mental music. The church orchestra
whiclris b^ihg directed -by-J"Er?i*ice'r
who is an experienced orchestra di-
rector, is yet in the "making" but
bids fair to become of great help in
music before the summer is over.
Rehearsals in this work are open,
gratis to all who are interested in
instrumental music. If interested call
the director at the parsonage.
Two large congregations assembled
Sunday for the preaching services.
The subject of pastor Scott's morning;:,
sermon was "Christiari Education",
which was in line with the Sunday
School lesson of the day.1 Attention1
was called to the fact that we are
very slack in religiously educating
our children. Teachers in many state
institutions of higher learning, the
pastor said, are' skeptics and leave
the imprint of thier lives and teach-
ings upon those who are taught by jj
them. These words: "What doeth
thou-here?" were used as a ha1-is of
the evening message. Elijah, the
pastor said, became discouraged after :
winning a great victory over the
prophets of Baal, and asked God to
let him die as Elijah thought he was
the last righteous man left, but (iod
told him that_He had reserved a
great. host. of faithful ones yet, and
though Elijah might pass from the
stage of actions, His (God's) work
would be carried on by those, left be-
hind. So it is..with us, remarked the I
speaker, we may drop out 'of God's
service if we choose, but His work
will continue to- prosper without us,
but we will lose the blessings 1h:ii
come as a reward for faithful ser- %
vice in the Kingdom of-God. *
Rey.-Scott announced that on next ^
Sunday morning he would preach a
special sermon on the calling and-
work of deacons. He requested that'
all dea.cons of the church make a .spec
ial effort to be present at this time.
The. office of a deacon js a respons- I Q
ible and a sacred trust.- The mem
bership looks to the deacon next to"
the-*pastor to leadership, for shaping "*!
and putting into execution church pol-
icies. Without well informed and
active deacons, a church can not be
progressive, and a church that is not. • , ■
progressive can not measure up
full opportunities and respoii"-iblities.
This is a great church in a fast (level"
oping section, with unlimited possi- ;
bilities. Full cooperation in the vari- >T"
ous phases of its^ork is all that is
needed to move tlie'^HiufcTi aTong in
a great' way and thereby keep pace .
with the rapid" development along
other lines.
