Dear Customer:
Beginning Feb. 1, 1956, M. & M. Food Store will adopt a new policy of
"Cash and Carry Sales". We realize this change will cause some inconvenience to
some of our customers for a time, but after much deliberation we have reached the
conclusion this policy will benefit all of us.
The Food Supply business is a highly cdmpetitive one, operating (as it
should) on a very narrow margin of profit. We say "as it should" because our business
deals in your most essential and constant need. Therefore, if your food merchant
can do anything to supply your food needs at lower prices, it is his duty tojde so.
A careful audit of the records of our business for the past several years
discloses that the cost of handling credit business and of delivering food to your door
has been greater than the profit on the business handled on this basis. The natural
conclusion is that by eliminating this cost, we can offer a greater saving to you on
your food purchase.
It has always been the policy of your M. & M. Food Store to bring you
the best the market affords at the lowest possible prices consistent with sound busi-
ness. Under the new policy, you may confidentially expect even greater values for
your food dollars.
In America we operate under the Democratic System. In simple words,
that is the system designed to provide the greatest good for all, and not for the few
at the expense of the many. You will agree it would not be Fair or Democratic to
provide extra service to some of our customers, when it means extra cost to all
For those who, for convenience, would like to purchase grocery coupon
books, you can save an extra two percent
Be sure to call for your Pionet-r Saving Stamps (double on Tuesday),
redeemable here in our store or Lowrie Prescription Drug, for $2.25 in cash, which
is a 1.9% saving, $2.50 on groceries whichis a 2% saving, or $3.00 on premiums
which is 2.5% seving.
