In compliance with Texas ( tisil Statutes, Article 6252-11 c,
the Texas department of Agriculture (TDA) invites pro-
posals for consultant services.
Proposal Specifications. A social scientist researcher is
sought to coordinate data collection and sample selection,
and community interviews for studies of possible socio-
economic effects of the United States Department of
Energy (DOE) high-le cl nuclear waste program on agri-
cultural communities in Texas. The individual selected will
be responsible for assuring that data collection and sam-
pie selection complements earlier procedures used in TDA's
longitudinal research program about the high-level nuclear
waste program. An applicant must have a Ph.D. in psy-
chology, sociology, or a related social science discipline;
and documented experience in longitudinal community-
based field research. Knowledge of research design, inter-
viewing techniques, and procedures for matched-sample
selection is required. In addition, an applicant with the
following qualifications is preferred: familiarity with Deafl
Smith, Swisher, and surrounding communities; familiari-
ty with the DOE waste program and the State of Texas
review of DOE efforts; and experience conducting research
in agricultural communities.

Deadline for Proposals. Proposals must be received at
the specified address no later than 5 p.m. on August 25,
1987.
Evaluation Criteria. Proposals will be judged on the basis
of a resume or vita which describes and shows evidence
of relevant professional expertise and experience, strong
written and oral communications skills, and an ability to
work independently and with diverse groups. Finalists will
be contacted by telephone if additional information is need-
ed to make the final evaluation, and to schedule an inter-
view if necessary.
