It Is gratifying to notice the fuel Unit

wide Hprend that the enterprise and
energy of our people does nut Hug mid
that new developments of our reson i ces

canvaNsed and organized. Several days
ago Tub lli:n.i.i noted the formation
of u blooded Htoek association by a
number of citizcim wlio have the hmanx
to carry out anything they undertake.
As a means of attracting the attention
of manufacturers and Htoek breeders to
tills point an a suitable one to exhibit
at tho new association cannot bo over
estimated. When once it la known
that line stock will receive valuable
jirouii tuns tho bent horse sin tliccixin-

Interest awaken among our farmers
to give Rome attention to the raining
of a better class of liorseH and cattle.
Pel-sons from all parts of the country
will take advantage of the rates which
will he offered during the holding of
the next fair to come ami see the
country. There will bo eight or ten
thousand visitors to it who will see
many of them for the first time the
advantages to the city county and
state of mich an institution and be
stimulated to increased efforts In order
to enter the lints ami compete with ex
hibitors from abroad. The proponed
enterprise will bo upon such an Inde
pendent financial basis as will com
wand patronage and there need he no
fear that it will not succeed.

Tho people of Texas almost ns a
unit dei ire Immigration and thou
sands of newcomers are entering the
state during every fall and winter. Dif-
ferent towns counties and sections
combine in inviting immigrants to
their respective sections. Thousands
of people come to Texas poor scantily
supplied with tlio necessaries of life
and with little or no money. A popa
lar idea und a very old one is that
immigrants should come to Texas in
the fall or winter so as to avoid any
acclimating sickness. The idea is based
on a mistaken notion. Omitting cer-
tain localities near the coast the im
migrant from elsewhere has no accli
mating sickness to encounter in Texas
For thirty-live years my observation
lias been that immigrants nrriving in
March April May and June are more
apt to be healthy than those coming
from October to February. If such is
the fact it should be reeogni.ed and
made known.
Look at the actual sufVering under-
gone by emigrants of small means or
no means at uli who arrive here in
the winter. No one will deny that it
Is often great. Iu Dailas this winter
many poor hut meritorious emigrants
with their families have sull'ereil
greatly. The kind heart of our mayor
and others has been moved to do every
thing within their power to relieve
them; yet actual sullering has been
frequent.
On the other hand suppose families
arrive in the early spring. Look at
their advantages. From April ilrst to
October llrst six months they can live
in great comfort in tents or camps;
they run got work on farms or have a
delightful period of six months In
which to establish new homes; they
can always get without charge as many
milch cows as they want ami thereby
have plenty of milk and butter and by
the same means rear poultry ami pig;
they can pick cotton on the shares or
for wages in September OctoU'r ami
November even little children earning
something; and by winter lliey can lie
prepared for comfortable existence.
The other vie is dark. Suppose a
poor man wife and live children to ar-
rive Iu Deeeinhcrnr Juuuary. At once
arises the necessity for a waim house
food and some employment. With no
employment hunger at once confronts
him With no comfortable cabin his
children shiver in our bleak winds
and nresubjeclfil todiseases from w hhh
cnnip life In summer is wholly exempt
Milk ami butter arc then luxuries Im
