BASKET BALL GIRL'S
FIRST VICTORY
In a return game at the
Golden Gym last Saturday
night, the Mineola girls defeat
ed the Quitman jr'ris in basket
ball by a score oi 21 to 14.
The game was hard tought
throughout and our girls did
some fine playing, but too
much praise cannot be given
the Quitman team, especially
Lorraine Moore, forward, who
makes 'em from any angle.

GRAND SALINE
DEFEATS MINEOLA
Friday the 13 was unlucky
for the girls. On that date
our girls met the ia>t Grand
iSa|;r.e Te?.in on the 0rand Sal-
ine court and were defeated
31 to 16. The Grand Saline
girls are mistresses of their
court, yet the Yellow Jacket
thinks the Mineola girls de-
serve much credit for the fight
and clean sportsmanship dis-
played in the game.
To night Friday, Grand Sal-
ine and Mineola girls meet a-
gain to settle the basket bsl.
differences at the Golden Gym.

prevents any student from hav-

gives ea;-h student more time
for exam preparation.
The change is due from ex-
tending the exam period over

period. Student and teachers
like it muc hbetter.

Made Goldfish Popular
Goldfish first appeared in England
about two centuries ago, but it was
Luigi Cura and bis father who made
them popular in the parlor windows
of the nation. They began almost by
chance. The Curas came to London
from Italy sixty years ago, when
Luigi was a boy, and his uncle sent
him a can of goldfish to comfort him
in his exile.
Finding the fishes interested their
neighbors, they began to Import them
and sell them. After a time thoy
added tortoises to their stock-in-trade^
and forty thousand tortoises, as well
as half a million goldfish, passed
through their hands in a year.
"Tidy*' Philosopher
Many of the world's greatest
philosophers are known to have had
very little concern for their personal
appearance. One notable exception,
according to a biography written
about 168S and recently reprinted,
was Spinoza who, says the author,
"was extremely tidy." Whenever he
left his house there was, as well,
"something about his clothes which
usually distinguishes a gentleman
from a pedant."
A present-day critic observes: "He
was a man of the greatest reticence,
t>ut with nothing to conceal; a man
of Intensely 'private life,' but wholly
transparent."
