A Pleasant Affair
Twos on the 20th of this mouth at the
bouts of Mr. A. B. Cbeuowetb (Martiudule
Texas) with frisnda assembled that Mr. J.
0. Meredith of San Antonio and Miss Kata
A. Chanoweth daughter of mint host stood
up before the "master of ceremonies" for
the oocasion who brieffy wove the tie that
made them one. After this came not
wedding dinner but a wedding lunch both
bountiful and tempting. Thence the happy
couple sped away to San Marooa to catch
the 2:30 south bound train for San Antonio
their future borne. May peace and pros
perity ever attend them.

The Old Grave Yard.
We recently referred to the new monu
ment just erected by the Lindsey and Hor.
voy families and to their determination to
doed the old cemetery lot (which ia part
of tho estate of William Lindsey) to some
oorpprate or other permanent authority in
order that the remains of the dead buried
there may never be disturbed and that those
having friends buried there may be encour.
aged to go to work and put the grounds in
good and handsome order. We are truly
glad to note this commendable movement
By repairing and painting or whitewashing
the fence removing the old rubbish in the
shape of rail pens and tumble-down palings
from the graves to. Ac cutting out the
burger and rougher timber fixing up the
graves and planting flowers and shrubbery
it can at a reasonable outlay of labor and
money be mode to look like quite another
place and to be an inviting place of resort
to- our people and visitors from abroad.
There rest the remains of representatives of
most of the old pioneer families of our town
and vicinity as also many from other States
of the Union and from foreign climes who
came to seek health and found a grave:
The place is therefore of historio and spec-
ial interest Its present condition is simply
disg racefuL Visitors from abroad do not
know but this is tho only -cemetery in the
place and hence are compelled to form a
very unfavorable opinion of our community.
This state of things should not be allowed
to continue.
There are plenty of people who have rela
tives or friends entombed ia the old grave
yard or who are otherwise interested to
put it in the best order ana Keep it so.
But they will do nothing until the title of
the ground is legally transferred to some
permanent authority conditioned to be held
sacred to its present use forever. When
that shall have been done there will be no
lack of help of means to improve and beau-
tify the plaoe but until then it will be use-
less to attempt it. The Fbee Press awaits
that essential step after which it will zeal-
ously urge on the work.

At thia ase ordinary lift insurance to that
amount would require an investment the first

sood or bad health with hi eaah dividend
of $7438 25 buy an annuity for life of

$228 50 give a oaan inoom of ?17 60
which nava tha Dteimum due annually on
th $2500000 insurance and $52 75 besides.
Thus he continue his insurance at a profit.
Or he may convert th entire eaah value of
the polioy $13487 60 into an annuity of
$106800 payable annually for the remainder
of hi life.
He thus invests during fifteen years by
fifteen equal annual payments the sum of
$11321 23 which during that time insures
to bis heir the amount of $2500000. At
the end of the fifteen years he may aooept a
yearly income until he die amounting to
nearly ten per cent on his paymonta.
The above results under the Somi-Tontine
system would be about ten per cent less.
Tha profit would be very tnuoh greater on
a similar polioy for twenty year. To find
the investment and results on a similar
polioy for $500000 divide all figures by five.
Tontine and semi-tontin insurauoe do not
increase the amount of premiums at all they
only withhold dividends until the expiration
of a seleoted period at whioh time the
assured ha if in good health six or if in bad
health four options offered him of using his
profits. Tontine Insurance while greatly
inoreasina; the profit and multiplying
advantage increase th risk by its for-
feiture clause. Somi-Tontine continues the
non forfeiture clause gives the same advent
ages and only slightly reduce the profits.
Hod the above polioy not the Tontine feature
the dividends would be for fifteen years less
than throe thousand dollars and there
would be no option to the assured. - Tho
only return would be annual dividends and
payment of the policy at death.
. The advantages of Tontiue Insurance
Investments may be shown by the following.
Say a person aged 40 invests $660000 at
5 per cent compound interest for 20 years.
He will if he lives have $17244 60 but his
heirs'or estate will have carried the risk of
total loss of his life value for twenty years.
Suppose a wiser person of . the same age
invests the same .amount 600000 at 0 per
eent and uses Cis yearly income by invest
ing it in a twenty year Tontine Life Policy
for $1000000. He thus secures to his
estate or hoirg insurance for that amount
should he die and Bhould he live his
original capital and returns from the
Insurance company will ne worth 91887602.
Thus the hitter makes the most to say noth
ing of the insurance or protection of life
value. Which is the best investment ?
