14.6 percent over 1995 and 1994 levels. Coman-
che remained in third place throughout 1996, but
it is one of the fastest growing producers in the

second place in the near future.
A total of 159.8 million pounds of milk was
produced on Hamilton county's 37 dairy farms
last year. This output represents gains of 6.7
percent over the previous year and 13 percent
over the 1994 value. During 1996, Hamilton
moved from eighth to seventh place among the
state's top milk producing counties.
Output in all three area counties expanded
over the past three years, while the state's output
remained stagnant. As a result of these trends,
the Cross Timbers area expanded its contribution
to Texas' total milk output from 26.7 percent at
the beginning of 1994 to 33.6 percent at the end
of 1996.MILK PRODUCTION
