Population of the Ottoman Em-
pire.
It lias heretofore been a matter of
conjecture what the population of
the Ottoman empire really was. A
return has recently been made which
is of semi-cflicial character, and, it'
is presumed, is as near accuracy as
it is possible to get at present. The
population is set clown as follows:
Europe (including tributaries) 15,-587,126
Asia Minor '3 -)'3.Sy7
Syria,Mesopotamia and Arabia 10.609,123
Airica 14 010,000

Extract from Telegraph antl Messen-
ger, Macon, Ga:
We natl tested its virtue personally,
and know that for dyspepsia, biliousness,
and throbbing headache arising there-
| from, it is the best medicine the world
! ever saw. We have tried forty other .
j remedies before the Simmons' Liver Reg- j
; ulator, but none of them gave us more j
than temorary relief but the Regulator j
! not only relieved, but cured us. Genu- |
ine prepared only by J . II. Zeilin & Co., 1
1 Philadelphia.
—♦
Sulphur anil molasses, the old fash-
[ ioned remedy for the itch, is obsolete,
j That and other obnoxious skin diseases
are cured' in half the time, without dis-
ordering the stomach, by Glenn's Sul-
phur Soap, the great external anti-
scorbutic.
The tints produeed by Mill's Instanta-
neous Hair Dye are like those of Nature.
Washington Post: The New York
Tribune shudders at the awful
spectacle of " a nation tryifig to
brand with dishonor its highest
chosen ruler." That is a spectacle
that is not visible in this country at
the present time. The people, hav-
ing a piofound conviction that they
did not choose Ha)*es and his gang
to rule over them, are trying, through
a lawful agency and in a lawful man-
ner, to find out by what means the
revolution of 1876-7 was effected,
and just how it happened that the
power passed from the majority to
the minority. If the Tribune could
show that Hayes and the rest were
chosen rulers, the brand of dishonor
would disappear. Under existing
circumstances it is likely to remain.
Philadelphia Record: Because
Senator Matthews will not swear he
didn't and because Secretary Sher-
man could not swear he didn't, there
is much misdoubt in the land.
It is not what Anderson
swears to that makes his accusations
strong; it is what Matthews and
Sherman refuse to swear to. The
two great lights of the administra-
tion that walk like pillars of fire be-
fore it refuse to book in their own
defense.
New York Sun: The Democrats
will have an advantage in the fall
campaign from the developments of
the fraud, and they ought to be able,
under the impulse given by the
Potter investigation, to carry several
states that are now classified as Re-
publican, and to win the next house
by more than double the present
majority.
Cincinnati Commercial: We do
not nominate President Hayes for re-
election. We have to say, however,
that a movement for his renomina-
tion may prove to be the most fit and
conclusive answer to the "third-
term" folly, which is making its ap-
pearance among the soreheads and
the remains of the rirgs, especially
of the whisky rings. The Grant
schemers preposterous.
A Pardonable Prido
Prompts most people to delay, by any
laudable means that science affords, the
evidences of physical decay. Who that
is in perfect health would not match that
bright eye, the active mind, and other ap-
pearances of youthlul vigor, with the
luxuriance, the rich color and beauty of
youthful hair? Parker's Hair Balsam
stands pre-eminent as an elegant hair
dressing, and by its healthful action on
the roots not only promotes a luxuriant
growth of the young hair, but unfailingly
restores gray or taded hair to the original
youthful color, giving a soft, rich and
lustrous appearance of great beauty. No
othei preparation so effectually removes
dandruff or stops falling ot the hair; its
cooling and healing action entirely curing
Itching and humors of the 6calp, and keep-
ing the skin clean, white and healthy. It
is perfectly harmless, exquisitely per-
fumed, and contains nothing that will
6oil the skin or gum the hair It is not
a dye, and isunequaled for excellence and
iirify. Buy a bottte from your druggist,

Liver is King.
the biggest of all the naval frauds
discovered by the Naval Committee
is laid open by an ofiiciail report from
the department of June 4th, 011 the
destruction of the ironclad Puritan
and the expenditure of over half a
million on a new ironclad of that
name. The essential facts exposed
by the department are that the origi-
nal vessel cost $1,900,000 and was
destroyed without reason, and that
the construction of the new Puritan
was began fourteen months befor the
old Puritan was condemned ; that the
new Puiitan was begun by Roach
without any plans or specifications
from the department; that she is so
bad that she can never float; that
Roach had made at least a quarter of
a million on the job and that the gov-
ernment had lost a good ironclad and
the total money value of not less than
two and a half million dollars.
The Liver is the imperial organ of the
whole human system, as it controls the
life health and happiness of man. When
it is disturbed in its proper action, all
kinds of ailments are the natural result.
The digestion of food, the movements of
the heart and blood, the action of the
brain and nervous system, are all imme-
diately connected with the workings of
the liver. It has been successfully proved
that Green's August Flower is unequaled
in curing all persons afflicted with dys-
pepsia or liver complaint, and all the
numerous symptoms which result from
an unhealthy condition of the liver and
stomach. Sample bottles to try 10 cents.
Positively sold in all towns on the West-
ern Continent. Three doses will prove
that it is just wnat you want.
Mothers, Mothers, Mothers.
Don't fail to procure Mrs. Wins-
low's Soothing Syrup for all diseases
of teething in children. It relieves
the child from pain, cures wind
colic, regulates the bowels, and, by
giving relief and health to the child,
gives rest to the mother.
3-6-d&w-iyr.
Nothing is more harassing than boils
and ulcers. Fortunately they can be
quickly healed by the use of Gleen's Sul-
phur Soap, which purges the sore of its
poisonous virus or proud flesh, and thus
removes the onlt obstacle to its healing.
Grow young in ten minutes with Hill's

The committee on platform of
the greenback ^statc convention, in
session at Sedafla, reported a declar-
ation of principles on the 19th,
embracing nineteen resolutions,
prominent among them being a de-
mand for the repeal of the specie
jesumption act and the issue ol ab-
solute money in greenbacks, nqiwl to
gold and silver. The resolutions
also pronounced against the intro-
duction of Chinese labor and depre-
cate all violence for the relief of
labor.
A manufacturing establishment
near Paterson, New Jersey, is said
to be secretly engaged perfecting a
process by which celluloid can be
coverted into a material almost ex-
actly resembling linen, from which
shirts, collars, cuffs, etc., may be
made, and which will bring about a
revolution in the laundry business.
The new goods can be cleaned like
glass with cigar water.
Senator Jones, whose income is
only $15,000 a day, is jealous of
Mack«y, who revels in $35,000 daily.
Jones says that so long as such
monopolists as Mackey hold Califor-
nia in their grasp, there is no chance
for a man of moderate means, and
he thinks of joining the Commune.
Attorney General Boone was
called upon by Mr. Darden last week
■ to investigate fully the legality of the
smokehouse tax, and has sent in
.in opinion sustaining fully the ruling
of the comptroller.
