Netter shows optimism for future
Dodge, Eagle tennis team expect upset in upcoming matches
By DAVID WILLIAMS
Daily Reporter
The Mean Green men's tennis team
has seven matches in the next week, and
Ben Dodge could have a lot to say about
the team's success.
Dodge is one of the top Eagles in wins
this spring. Dodge, one of the more con-
sistent players, relies on his steady
groundstrokes, speed and quickness.
"I have been pleased with my play so
far this year. I have been playing No. 5
or 6 until recently, when I moved up the
ladder to play No. 3, 4 or 5 in the singles
lineup," Dodge said. "The team has
been playing pretty good this year. We
are very young and I think we are
probably a year away from having a
great team."
NT has not been invited to the
National Collegiate-Athletic Associa-
tion national tennis tournament, but
Dodge said he believes the Eagles have a
good chance to go to the tourney next
year. "With all of our young players, we
are not likely to get the invitation this
spring. But with a lot of work next fall
and spring, I think we can compile a
good enough record to get the in-
vitation."
Dodge said he thinks the players are
ready to work hard and do well. With
work, NT could be a ranked team, pos-
sibly by next year, he said.
"IT IS NOT going to be that tough
for us to get up for these next seven
matches. With people like those at Texas
A&M, Texas Tech and Lamar coming
to town, we should be ready to play all
of these matches. We are all looking for
an upset over one of these Southwest
Conference schools. I think we can play
with any of these teams."
Dodge has teamed with David Sam-
mel and Luciano Cuneo in doubles this
spring. Dodge was not at NT in the fall,
as he transferred at midterm from the
University of Arkansas.
"I probably play my best in doubles
with Luciano, but any of us on the team
can play pretty good with anybody else
on the team. David Sammel and I played
together Tuesday and we played well
together. All of the players on the team
get along, so it makes it easy to play
doubles. But there are always certain
ones you play better with, and I think I
play better with Luciano."
Dodge said this is a tough part of the
Eagles schedule with Trinity and the
University of Arkansas coming up. "We
need to get an upset over one of these
teams, and I would like to beat all of
them."
Sammel said, "We are very young, but
I think we can upset one of these teams
that we are going to play. Since they are
all home matches, we should not get that
tired."
NT TENNIS Coach A.G. Longoria
said, "Ben is one of the toughest players
on the team. He relies on his quickness
and is probably the smartest on the
court. Ben always uses his head and
good tactics."
NT will play Northeast Louisiana to-
day, Texas A&M Friday, Gustavus
Adolphus Saturday, Lamar Sunday,
Texas Tech Monday, Memphis State
Tuesday and Southeastern Oklahoma
Wednesday.
THE MEN BEAT Grand Canyon
College Tuesday, 9-0. Only two matches
had to go three sets as the Eagles took
every advantage to win the matches.
"I think everybody played well in the
matches," assistant coach Tom Grisham
said. "We were a little surprized that
David Sammel had to go three sets to
win, but he did pull it out. I thought we
could take this team, 9-0, but we would
not want to tell the players something
like that."
Dodge and the rest of the Eagles
lineup will be changed during these next
few matches to get everybody some rest.

Christ—The Son of God
Although Hebrews 1 is a short chapter, It reveals Christ as the Son oI God (rom eternity past
to eternity future. First, Christ as the Son of God is the effulgence of God's glory, which is like
the shining or brightness of the rays of the sun. The Son Is the shining, the brightness of God's
glory. The Son Is also the express image of the substance of God. The glory is the outward ex-
pression and the substance is the Inward essence. When the Son comes to us. He bears the in-
ward essenco and substance of God. The Son Is also God Himself. Verse 8 says concerning
the Son, "Your throne, O God," revealing that the Son is God Himself
The Son, according to verses 2 and 10, created the heavens and the earth All things came
Into existence through the Son After creating all things, the Son became the Upholder Scien-
tists know that some unseen power holds the universe together. That Is Christ as the Son of
God. In the future the Son will inherit what He created and Is presently upholding. He is the
Heir of all things. All things are of Him, through Him, and to Him (Rom. 11:3).
Concernlnq redemption, the Son has taken away sin (John 1:29) and has accomplished the
purification of sins once and for all through His crucifixion. Therefore, He sat down forever and
Is waiting for His enemies to be subdued under His feet. As the Son of God He Is superior to
the angels through whom the Old Testament laws were given. They were only ministering
spirits, whereas He Is the very Son of God. As the Son He was begotten In resurrection to be
the Firstborn Son of God (Acts 13:33) By His Incarnation He became the only begotten Son,
but by His resurrection He became the Firstborn Son, meaning that through resurrection, He
had brought many sons into glory. Today the church Is composed of His many brothers who
are born of God. By His ascension He Is the right hand of the Majesty on high, that is. He has
been inaugurated Into His office to carry out God's eternal purpose of building up the church
and bringing many sons into glory. As the Firstborn Son of God In ascension, He also is com-
ing back to the Inhabited earth where all the angels of God will worship Him. At His coming
back His throne will be established in His kingdom. Then according to verse 12, He will remain
forever and ever In eternity future. This Is Christ as the Son of God In Hebrews chapter one.
Such a rich Christ is for our experience and daily enjoyment today
