Those having children and wishing to receive the benefit of the Public
School Fund would do well to have them enrolled immediately or they will be
barred "by the statute" in a few days. Patrons will be credited by amount
received from the Public Free School Fund.

TOWN & COUNTY
- We were pleased to receive a call from Mr. G. GAGE of Upshur County,
one day this week.
- Big fist fight last Monday which resulted in one badly disfigured face
and a broken hand.
- Last Thursday was the Jewish new year, and the day was duly observed
by those of that faith.
- We regret to learn that Mrs. DOBBS, wife of our fellow townsman, Mr.
Tom DOBBS, has been dangerously sick for several days.
- O.H. METHVIN, Jr. and wife were blessed with a fine son last Saturday.

At the residence of the bride's parents, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1879, by
Rev. A.E. CLEMMONS, Mr. Jno. H. CARTER and Miss Sarah HOSKINS, daughter of
J. M. HOSKINS, Esq.
OUR COTTON MARKET
Notwithstanding there has been a decline in foreign markets, which has
lowered the sights of our buyers slightly, yet the receipts have kept up
throughout the week. The receipts to date for this month amount to 869 bales,
and the average price paid to date has been fully ten cents per pound. Our
buyers are determined that Longview shall stand ahead of any market in East
Texas as to price.

Brenham, Fort Worth, Bryan, Sherman, Corsicana, Paris, Marshall and Jefferson.
