been given to all those that you
have chosen, I must congratulate
another group, you the members.
Whether you know it or not, with-
out you there would not be an
Association or people to vote in
one of the greatest Associations
in the world. We must have the
continued support of everyone
to keep our organization work-
ing. Throughout the year we have
our chapter gatherings. Let's get
everyone involved in getting
committees to work up new sites
for future national reunions. If
the sites are presented, we will
assist in making future places

to go and I will promise you will
not be alone in handling a reun-
ion if you do come up with a
site. If you are willing to help
with our reunions, please don't be
afraid or feel you won't do a
good job, because you may come
up with better ideas than we
have, and possibly make things
better for many other members.
We need your ideas and thoughts
so our members do not become
bored.
Now we come to the business
at hand, our next years' reun-
ion. We have a very capable man
at the helm, Warren Maue. He
is not alone in this endeaver. He
has a committee helping him and
I know that the reunion in Ken-
tucky shall be the largest and
greatest one we have had. For
many of us it will be our first
visit to the Patton Museum. We
will also have many other act-
ivities planned and we will try
to avoid any problems in advance
so that all will enjoy their stay
in the Green Grass Country. So
let's start planning from now

President elect Vince Mancinelli, with confident smile and
posie in place, assures us that the coming year will produce all
the goodies that are available to our association. Remember this
picture. After his year is over, we'll show you what he looks like
again. Hope he is still smiling.
has dwindled down to only John
Melfi and Ed Kowalzyk. He con-
tinues: "I retired in 1974 with
29 plus years at Long Beach
Naval Shipyard and Naval Sta-
tion plus my army time thus giv-
ing me almost 30 years as a
heavy truck driver. I also worked
16 years of Sundays in security
for Knotts Berry Farm from 1950
to 1966, a great place to work.
I'm one of the double dippers
one hears so much about, draw-
ing both SS and Civil Service re-
tirement. My wife, Avis and I are
enjoying my retirement with a
trip once in a while. Planning
to go to Washington state in the
summer but it will be after the
Western get-to-gether in Portland.
We have two boys with good jobs
and four granddaughters includ-
ing identical twins and one grand
son who lives in our area." He
concludes: "I would be glad to
hear from any of my old buddies
and would urge every one to re-
tire at age 62 if possible as it's
later than you think. 'It's Great
To Be a Hellcat' ".
In his second letter, Slim who
caught up with some back issues
of the HCN, says that he sees by
the issue of July 1977 that the
West Coast Chapter of the associ-
ation was held on the Queen
Mary in his home city of Long
Beach, CA. He adds: It must
have been the best kept secret in
the city because I sure never saw
it advertised in our Long Beach
Press Telegram and I read it
from cover to cover. If it ever
comes to my city again, I will
sure try and make it. If any of
Slim's old buddies would like to
contact him his address is 3818

What with the membership re-
newal period upon us, dues are
slowly trickling in and with it bits
of news from here and there.
From Long Beach, CA comes a
couple of letters from Wilbur
(Slim) Dunlavy (Div Hq/CCB)
who comes back into the associa-
tion and says it's nice to see
some of the names of buddies he
had often thought of during the
years. He requests some copies
that he missed on "The Initial
Assault On Herrlisheim". After
seperation in Jan. '46, he kept
in touch with his old gang via
Christmas cards but now his list
to work on and attend our largest
reunion ever.
See you next issue.
