18th Hellcat Picnic a Success
The 18th Mid-continent Hellcat picnic was a great gathering
with 54 Hellcats, Hellkittens and guests present. Regretfully,
there were 19 cancellations due to health. Forty-six were
seated for the Friday night banquet.
Those present came from 12 states and represented 10 units
plus the history project.

Five young men and women from ACU attended Saturday
and spent the day interviewing Hellcats and Hellkittens for
the 12th's history project. They are a credit to their school.
A raffle was held with $175 being presented to the students
so one might attend the Columbus reunion.
The traditional "burn your own" steak fry was held with
8 oz. ribeye steaks and all the trimmings. Don Hering received
the "Chief of the Flame" medal for his dance while the fire was
being lit. Everette and Myrtle Riggs celebrated their 56th
wedding anniversary at the picnic. Many congratulations and
we are looking forward to celebrating with them again in 1998.

LADIES' LUNCHEON PLANS
When our president, Marvel, called with a request I
chair the ladies' luncheon I hesitated, then said, "Why
not?" So here are the plans so far.
The ladies' luncheon is scheduled at noon on Friday,
Aug. 29. Since it's difficult to plan such an event long
distance, I have selected a menu that I hope will please
everyone. We want a light meal; I've tentatively picked
for the entree a trio of salads (chicken, tuna and egg) with
vegetables and fruit. 12th ADA Historian Marian Miller
will be guest speaker with a message, important for all
Hellkittens. I'll arrive at the hotel Wednesday and would
appreciate some volunteers to help the day of the
luncheon.
If you have any ideas, let me know. Call (203) 239-9824 -
evenings are best - or write: Rita Swingler (B-56), 303
Bassett Rd, North Haven, CT 06473.
