OUR REDEEMER
JfiUTHERAN CHURCH
Fourth and Rorem
Rev. L. Winficld Wickham. Pistu*
Men have always wanted a
pledge of a life beyond the grave,
at. real proof that death does not
end all. But we need not be look-
ing further, if we learned our les-
son of Easter.
When deaith enters our home and
takes a loved one, there is no com-
fort for us than the vision of the
ttriump'h&nt Savior, with the seal
■of victory over death in His nail-
pierced hands and the shout of as-
surance on His lips; "Because I
live, ye shall live also".
His victory over the grave pro-
claims to us that someday our
srave, too shall be empty. "Christ
is the First Fruits of them that
slept" (1 Cor. 15, 20), says Paul,
lust as the first fruits are the
foretaste, the forepledge, of a lat-
«ar and more general harvest, so
■Christ's resurrection is the guar-
antee and forepledge of our resur-
rection to life eternal—in that
later, greater harvest.
For us death holds no terror.
'Our mighty Champion, Christ, has
&one before us, through the val-
ley of the shadow, preparing the
way that we might follow. He has
Jifted the veiling cloud which hung
heavily over what seemed to be the
. Journey's end—and at the top of
the road that winds up the far
. side of the valley we see our Fath-
er's house with all its many man-
sions?
His glorious resurrection on that
Hint Easter morning is our pledge
<of life eternal. Easter can nevet
be over for us.
Our Redeemer Lutheran will
faave the comfort of God's Word
next Sunday at 10:45 a.m. when

bers in Every Church".

eral Sundays while the Pastor
■there is in the hospital. Sunday

I hope everyone had a nicc
Easter. The weatherman cooperat
ed and we had a perfect day for
Easter egg hunts, cook outs, boat-
ing and picnics. Some spent Easter
flt home with their families, others
traveled out of town to be with
friends and relatives.
Mrs. L. C. Smith, Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Gallaher, Mrs. Lila Morris,
Mrs. Margaret Tate, Mr. and Mrs.
W. L. Ellis were in San Marcos
during the Easter holidays to at-
tend the 50th wedding anniversary
of Mrs. Smith's sister, Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Ellis, who were honored
Vvith a reception Sunday afternoon
from 2:30 until 5 at the home of
their daughter, Mrs. Buck Paine.
Mrs. E. E. Christopher of Con-
roe and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Reno
of Houston enjoyed a short visit
with Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Smith dur-
ing the holidays before going to
Schicke Point where the Renos own
a summer cottage.
Mr. and Mrs. Delton Tate of Ful-
ton were visiting friends and rela-
tives here this week end.
Mr. Massey conducted Easter
services at the First Presbyterian
Church Sunday. The Massey fam-
ily were guests of the Fred Laws.
The Woman's Club will hold a
very important meeting at the
Mopac Wednesday afternoon to
make plans for Collegeport Day
which will be celebi-ated Saturday,
May i2l5.
Our sincere thanks to Verner
Bowers for the many years he has
represented our district as a trus-
tee for the Palacios Independent
School District.
There were many who took ad-
vantage of the nice weather and
holidays to fish, but in general
there weren't many fish caught due
to strong winds and rough water.
Those trying their luck were Mr.
and Mrs. Rinehart of Houston who
returned home with a very small
catch; Dr. Matthews of Bay City
tried his luck at Half Moon only
to return with a few trout and
gafftop. Agnes and "Blackie" Griff
of Houston, no luck; Joe Roznov-
sky of Alto Loma, who visited
Francis and Willie Rapstain, had a
nice catch of blue catfish from the
Brazos River; Mrs. Bessie O'Con-
ner of Van Vleck caught only a
few small drum; John Bohuslav of
Markham caught several blue cats
in a canal orv Oyster Lake Road,
they weighed from 5 to 8 pounds.
Ted and Pansy Dressier of El
Campo fished on Saturday.
Mrs. Kopecky of El Maton, who
celebrated her 93rd birthday Easter
Sunday, was honored at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Blondie
Domorod, with all eight of her
children attending.
We would like to extend our
sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Man-
fred Jalufka who lost their place
of business, the Travelers Inn,
when it was completely destroyed
by fire early Friday morning.
Mrs. Dorothy Bullington, Lyn
and Jackie, visited Mrs. Tootsie
Kerbow and Teen Bullington in
Bay City, Friday.
Johnny Reynolds of Corpus
Christi was a guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Roesler Easter Sunday.
They attended services at the First
Baptist Church in Palacios.
Spending the Easter week end
with their parents were Bobby
Fowler who is attending the Uni-
versity of Houston and Butch Bow-
ers, a student at Texas.
