Five Verm Wheel Girls
This Week at Royal
The JWvs l'errls Wbe<»l Girls will bring
an absolute n« velt.v to the Royal Theater
for the week beginning with today's
matinee. They present themselves to the
audience dressed in neat opera coats,
appearing before a special drop curtain
and renderlug selections on cornels. The
quintet of musicians evidence genuine
cleverness in this part of the act. Later
they give I he sensational portion of the
number and the novelty which gives the
offering its title. A large Ferris wheel
Is constructed on the stnge. and on this
'the five young Indies perform, appearing
now in a costume that grants them a
liberty for acrobatic performance that !■

bars and trapeze on this Ferris wheel
Instead of cages, and on these the girls
do all sorts of feats. The big wheel re-
volves slowly during the entire perform-
ance and. enhanced by pretty electrlcnl
effects, the offering is truly a visual de-

Operetta Headlines
Bill at the Plaza
"California."
Jack Gardner.
George Augei and company..
James Grady and company.
Brent Hayes.
Hall and Guilfoyle.
An operetta with a real plot, real sing-
ing, pretty music and capable actors will
be the headllner for the Plaza bill open-
ing at the matinee this afternoon and
continuing all week with bargain mati-
nees dallV except today and night p«r-
fomiances at 8:30 o'clock. Newspaper
comment on "California" In the cities
where It has played are very flattering,
and It is expected the operetta will be
equally well received In Ban Antonio.
The remainder of the bill also comes wall
recommended and another week of ster-
ling entertainment Is In store for patrons
of the Pinna.
Of particular interest to the children
will he the appearance of the circus
giant, Capt. George Auger, and a I/llllpu-
llan actor In "Jack the Giant Killer"
The novelty of this act will also appeal
to the older folks who do not ballava In
fairy tales
"California" Is the romantic operetta
of eatly California life, concerning a
little Spanish Indian girl, who was adopt-
ed into the San Juan Mission by the
good fathers at her birth, rihe la being
courted by a Spanish grandee, when the
American engineer, who Is building a
railroad for an Kngllsh lord through the
territory of the mission, meets and falls
In love with her. The comedy is In the
bands of the Kngllsh lord, played by the
well-known English comedian, Austen
Stuart Miss Ix-slle l^elgh will be seen In
the title role, and a more perfect Jewel
could not be found for her position.
Harry Griffith Is the American hero, a
real, true-to-life oharacter. The book Is
by Cecil de Mllle, and the tuneful score
by Robert Hood Bowers. The stage set-
ting. scenic, equipment and the excel
lence of the oa»t Itself, combine to make
"California" the greatest vaudeville play-
let In American vaudeville
Jack Gardner, late star of "Madame
Sherry" and a doien other Broadway
hits, will prove second headllner on this
bill of stars. Mr. Gardner's act has a bit
of the Colianeaque, but Is lively with new
songs, snsppy stories snd Imitations. His
songs are well chos«n and wholeaome.
one of the lilts of his act Is his Impres-
sion of nn Englishman's Idea of "Uncle
Tom's t'sbln." Mr. Gardner has a lot of
good stuff and he adds little touches to
his act at every performance. All the
good things that could he said about
Jack Gardner would fill an entire paper,
but with the limited spare allowed. If
each line were covered with great, ex-
cellent. unsurpassable, but a word of
description could lie supplied He Is all
that may be Imagined bv way of being
a genuinely clever entertainer.
George Auger and company, presenting
that must extravagently coatutned. orig-
inal and humorous playlet entitled "Jack,
the Qlant Killer." will prove the third
great headline attraction, and the great-
est thriller for the youngsters on the
market. This set Is America's record-
breaktiiR sensation for the youngsters
especially and depicts the old story of
"Jsck the Giant Killer" In actual real-
ity; fahle. hlstorv portrayed In a real-
istic setting by the only cast able to
reproduce that childhood fable In the
world Here truth Is stranger than fic-
tion a real glani and real midgets.
George A tiger has with him the smallest
Lilliputian on the stage of toJay, a king
of actors, singer and comedian, and able
aseistsnt to the clever flant. This act Is
the only one of Its kind In the universe,
and If you would give the youngsters the
grestest treat of their childhood days,
let them visit this performance and see
for perhaps the only time In their Uvea
a really, truly giant and real l.lltlpiitl-
ans.
