Texas, his attack against the lobby and
his charges of corruption against the meru- '

in his expulsiou. The Heuator made sev-
eral startling statements and charges,
uuiong which were the following:
"I have three letters in my possession
from a certain county certifying to the
fact that a certain man had made a con-
fession that he had given a cheek of $«.>0
to a State Senator If he would use his in-
fluence to have the cotton exchanges re-
instated."
Also. '| have a letter from the cashier

them was turning down $10 grocery hills
he could not pay, and the other was set-
tling his debts at 50 cents on the dollar.
When the Legislature adjourned these men
returned home and went hi business and
advertised a capital stock of $2.*>,000."
Mr Thomas made 'he following state-
ment in ii very emphatic manner:
"I believe that with $'J5.0no the lobby

of bills through the Texas Stale Senate.

Four Barbers Are to Meet
Over the Face.
A novel contest will be staged at the
Royal Theater Friday night, when four
barliers wield the razor in a frantic dash
for the world's record.
The present record against a man-
sized growth of spinach is 2:10, and the
local tonsorial parties will go after the
premium, determined to pare off the
whisks in something like real speed.
The contest is limited to four entries.
Two have already entered and gone into
training. They are Paul Rampola and
"lied" Rennett. Each contestant will
furnish his own subject, but the latter
must pass the rigid exam for abundance
of face trimmings.
The competition will be under the aus-
pices of the local. 1ST. J. B. I. I*. of A.,
and under the direction of its president,
T. D. Ashby.
The race will be called at the conclu-
sion of the first performance Friday

The following charge the Senator chal-
lenged any member of the Legislature to
disprove: "1 can name five professional
lobbyists on my finuers who were present
i.i Austin during the :.is' Legislature, and
I will wager the ears off my head, and I
never bet. that four out of five of the hills
opposed by these men never became laws,
and most of them never 'got outside the
.committee room."
The speaker followed this charge with
the question: "What does this mean?" and
drew the conclusion that these five profes-
sional lobbyists have more influence in
shaping legislation affecting the corp.ra-
tions of this State than the 750,000 voters
of the St'ite combined.
The Senator devoted much time In dis-
cussing the poker playing by members of
the legislature ami the lobbyists at Aus-
tin. and said: "This method of bribery
has been resorted to In practically every
Stale of the I'nion. In such a game the
cards are always so dealt unci manipulated
that the member always gets the winning
hand. Ifs a case of 'Heads up, I win:
tails up. you lose.' "
The Senator brought the house down
with the following exclamation: "A lobby-
ist who would engage in a poker game
with a Slate Senator, asking favors at his
bands and then win his money in the
game is a natural born fool and ought not
lo hold his job for twenty-four hours"
The speaker while being severe in his
charges, did not deai in personalities
whatever, nor did he refer at all to the
prohibition or Bailey questions. He did
not mention til® name of the Senator from
this district, who voted for his expulsion.
The speech was well received and fre-
quently applauded.

THE REMEDY
FOR SORES ^ULCERS
There is but one way to cure an old sore or chronic ulcer, and that'4
lo remove the cause that produces and keeps it open. No matter wheve
located, any sore that remains until it becomes chronic does so because of
impure blood; the circulation constantly discharges its polluted matter into
the place and it is impossible for nature to heal the sore. .S.S.S. heals
5orea and ulcers by purifying the blood. It removes every trace of taint
Dr impurity from the circulation, and thus completely does away with the
cause. No local application reaches below the infected flesh at the spot,
and for this reason can h?.ve no curative effect on a sore or ulcer; whilo
such treatment is being used alone, the germs and impurities are constantly
increasing in the blood and the sore is bound to grow worse. When S.S.S.
has cleansed the blood and enriched and purified the circulation the
place begins to take on a more healthy appearance, the different symptoms
show improvement, the flesh around the ulcer gets firm, new skin and
tissues are formed, and aided by pure, rich blood, nature provides a perfect
end lasting cure. Under the tonic and blood-purifying effects of S.S.S., the
system is built lip, and those whose health has been impaired by the drain
and worry of an old sore will be greatly benefited by its use. Book on
