Last Friday night when the Abbots
Grove Skat fiends met for their week-
ly tussle, the ladies took advantage
of the opportunity and prepared a
surprise party-^at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Rudt^h Miksch in honor of
Misses Viola Raeke and Delores Telt-
schik. Misses Raeke. and Teltschik
compose the teaching staff of the Ab-
botts Grove School and their birth-
days happen to be just a few days
apart. These young ladies are doing
a fine job of instructing our young-
sters. They fit well into our com-
munity and we feel they belong to our
crowd. There was an abundance of
good things to eat and drink and we
all had a fine time. Congratulations,
girls.
Sunday we all went to Grandma
Meyer's and celebrated her birthday.
Grandma is 76 years young now and
is still in good health. Quite a few re-
latives and friends came in the after-
noon. Some of them returned and still
others came at night to wish her con-
tinued health and happiness. Again
we feasted on all kinds of cake, pies,
sandwiches, coffee, etc., and enjoyed
ourselves immensely. We wish Grand-
ma many more happy birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. F. Meyer of
San Antonio spent the week-end with
Mrs. Gerhard Meyer and the C. W.
Meyer family. The main reason for
the visit was to celebrate Grandma
Meyer's birthday.
We are informed that Mrs. John
Ahrens is severly ill. We wish her a
speedy recovery and sincerely hope
she is much improved at this writ-
ing'- - M

first trench silos in the community
last summer, opened up his silo last
week and found less spoilage than
he expected. He is well satisfied with
the results.
